Yes, untill it breaks over on plane, then you can back off.

Hmmm, That is what I have not been doing. Rated rpm's for the motor is in the 5,000 to 5,600 range. Have not been near that yet. :D c'mon Saturday

Slow, but do-able. Tough for guiding right now. Teaching someone to worm or jig fish can be tough with someone that hasnt even ever bass fished. They get a lot of hits, but just are not tuned in enough to set the hook quick enough. Also, I get a lot of. "Why are we 50 yards away from the bank" questions. I try and explain what we are going to do and why before we go out though.

Well, took it out and made sure that it was trimmed all the way down, nailed it. Boat took off and was up on plane in no time, then it started again. But I decreased the rpm level and it stopped and rode smoothly. Never got to the recommended RPMs of 5000 to 5500. Will lower the pitch on the prop to see if that helps. Have to admit that cruising around 3000 rpms was very pleasant with a level plane. Question: the second time the porpoising started, I cut to the left and in the turn, rode smooth. Straighten out and restarted. Any reason why?

Caught plenty of bluegill with my son and nephew today and saw a northern chase a caught bluegill to the surface.

RonG, you may be right. Just read another thread were boats similar to mine are using 4 blade props with as much or more pitch than mine. Will study further, thanks ;)

Just read your thread and I have to admit the advice their was valuable. One of probaly several questions I have, when your come up on plane, when and how much do you trim up, if any, your motor?

Re: please help: how to stop porpoisng

if its just me in the boat i will start bumbing the trim up immediatly and keep on going .alot of times when you get on plane and dont have enough trim the nose of the boat is down and usually feels like it is cocked to the left.you want to be on pad, there shouldnt be any spray coming from the boatexcept for behind you if look to your side and see spray bumb the trim and give it gas, i like to get the bow up until im comfortable with it,i can still trim mine all the way up,best thing is just get out there and try different ways,im still learning my boat too, like i said harder to explain than to do.youll get it,also with bow up lot better ride.

Okay, RonG, this is something I did not do. The bow was down and the porpoising was not as servere as before.

I have to say that I have never nailed my boat with the trim all the way under, I dony know what it would do. Probably a circle or something weird.

I nail it to get up on plane, then back off a little if Im not wanting to go WOT. Then when it is planing, just bump the trimm a little at a time and watch the spray move towards the back of the boat. When you are going slow, a little trim goes a long way. If it starts to porpose, give it a bit more gas and it should work through it, if it continues to bounce, trim back down untill it stops, and then trim back up. Any boat will porpose if you are trimmed too much without enough power behind it. You will not be able to reach your recommended WOT RPM unless you are flat out and trimmed as much as you can without porposing. Thats where you get the Max WOT #s from. Could be that there is not enough stern lift from your current prop. Rarely do you see aluminum props on a bass boat. They are actually designed for Stainless props.

Stay with us, we are going to work this out for you. ;)

Judging from what you and RonG have said, I am very close to figuring this thing out. When the boat would go into its act, I would back off a little and it calmed down smoothed out. I did not trim it up and there was some splash at or behind my seat at 3500 to 4000 rpms. I have a 3 blade SS prop with a pitch of 23. Gonna try to get out during the work week and test the trimming up for improvement. Then, change to the SS prop and do it all over again. They are predicting showers for the upcoming weekend  , but we will see. Again, thank you guys for your help. It is great on this site when you can ask and respond to inquries and get promoted. Can't wait for my first check :)

Re: please help: how to stop porpoisng

sounds like your not getting it all the way on pad and are staying at constant speed try this when you get on plane bump your teim and start giving it more gas keep on giving it gas until the porpoising levels out,if you notice when your running then slow down with out trimming down it will start porpoising your problam is the opposite it sounds like, when it does start porposing give it gas and ride through it.

Re: please help: how to stop porpoisng

if the bow was down then your plowing water, not good, bump trim up and give gas should ride on through the porposing.the only time mine will porpoise is when i let off the throttle and still trimed up,your problem is the opposite.get out on lake practice bet you can drive it right out of porposing, have fun,you can do some power fishing run and gun spot to spot :)
