Pontoon flooring

I am trying to decide what I am going to cover the plywood with on my pontoon. I really want to avoid carpet. The boat is only going to be used for fishing and there will be lots of fish slime applied to the boat :D

I am thinking about using a rubber or foam flooring that is easy to clean and came across a couple of options. What do you guys think?

I think the rubber will probably last longer, but it seems like it would get hotter in the sun. I can also change the foam out one peice at a time if it gets damaged bad enough. Maybe I could find some good rubber interlocking tiles....

That would be like playing hop scotch on a hot day. On the plus side the kids could play checkers when they get bored fishing. Geesh I just aged myself.

I'd be a lil concerned of getting the plywood dried out under the tiles after a weekend fishing.

hell, this is AZ. In the summer carpet turns into lava LOL. We always wear shoes when we are fishing, so the heat wont be too big of a deal. Plus I will have a cabin and 2 awnings for shade and a small swamp cooler.

what do you mean by the plywood drying out? Just from the heat being absorbed?

I emailed them for a quote and they got back to me fairly quick. I should have a price and lead time in a couple hours. No prices usually just means they mostly sell wholesale.

What I meant is you'll get plenty of water and slime drain between and under the tiles,but not a lot of air will ever reach it to dry it back out.

I have to wear shoes when fishing too. But only because I'm a candyass when barefooted.

good point...... I may just do carpet and lay out a few rubber mats to set fish on?

Brian, is you aluminum deck very slick when wet?

I called around about putting bed liner on my aluminum floor and about fell over with the price of 1100- 1600 and that's with me removing everything on deck. Line x was about one of the only ones that would do it others said they wouldn't because their liner became slippery when wet. So I'm looking at paint with non skid texture added.

Not that I've noticed. I've read where people said it was,but mine is wet a lot and gets slimed so heavy at times I use the wash down pump to hose it down. Rinses right off.

Cuda, anti-skid is supposed to be ruff on your bare feet.

Elgringo, aluminum weight is 0.094# per cubic inch. to find the weight, simply take length x width x thickness x 0.094 to get the weight of aluminum.

1983 ercoa - Tuff Grip is not bed liner, it is their polyruethane non-skid coating intended for flooring

Bed liner is intended to protect the bed of a pickup truck. non-skid is intended to keep you from skidding/slipping on wet

and yes, it is expensive, so is everything else boating

By the time you get the extra cross members and the aluminum floor in the weight issues is about equal the benefit is having a floor you never have to replace. The cost on the other hand is more expensive to do aluminum.

I believe I am just going to end up ordering carpet and laying out some rubber mats around the outer edge for setting fish on. hopefully that will help the carpet make it a little longer without smelling like rotting death too soon :)

I completely restored my barge last fall and I too had the same decision. I went with Evercoat Skid-no-more. Here is my review:
I love the feel of the product, doesn't get very hot on the feet and feels great. Not harsh like a bed liner material. This stuff is made with real rubber pieces.
I had a clean artist pallet with a cleared 24' barged and brand new marine wood laid down. I figured I would be done in an hour. Wrong! You definitely need to dilute it with water and the directions say you can do this. Didn't read that part until I was half finished. It's extremely thick and no way do you want to do a large surface with a brush. I tossed the brush after ten strokes and started to roll it. NOPE, that sucked too as you can't get it to spread at all. Hey, read the can a little more and notice it suggest pouring it on and spreading so finally I just dumped it in the middle and used a concrete trowel to spread it around. If I had watered it down and started like this in the beginning it would have turned out very nice. As it stands, I'm trying to get someone to tell me if I can simply paint over it with latex now because I'm not happy with the cosmetics of it. (my fault)
Note the coloring differences in the pic. Also notice the seam where my wood edges are visible just at the end of the front seats. Good news is you can patch this stuff easily but just going over it. I guess I should have waited a few weeks to let the newly installed wood dry a little or something because there was no seam when I installed it. Either way, no more moldy carpet and I use this boat for cat fishing too so clean it is awesome with my power washer.
