I know this one;

Back in the day when knights rode horses (do they still?), they mounted their horse from the left side, and as most were right-handed, they would fight/joust/etc., on the right. So they sort of drove from the right side of the horse. It stuck. As an added bonus, if you're driving in England, you can joust with on-coming traffic! My wife is from England, and she looked it up.

I grew up on a sailboat, so I've never had a problem with port and starboard, along with a plethora of other nautical nomenclature.
It's right and left I have a problem with.

What's this port and starboard business? I thought it was larboard and starboard.

I was taught it with this (almost) joke.

A sailor walks into a busy bar and asks the bartender for a beer.
The bartender replies,
"sorry mate, it's been a very busy night, we only have RED PORT LEFT"

that's the way my RYA instructor showed me to remember it

Lets see, hot wire is on the left and electrons flow down hill. Wish port and starboard were the only thing I forgot anymore.
