ok so 135hp 1976 johnson v4
got some pics of the motor on the boat... I've been told I have a fixed part that bolts to the boat and a power trim section that is connected to the motor.



so what should I be doing in the water cause right now a couple of bolts are what she is resting on and I've got it held in place while running around with a ratchet strap lol

oh and a question about the prop... am I doing damage to the motorrs drive system running the prop with a bend in the tip like that? how much performance is it hurting too. thx

you are missing the powertrim rams or maybe just assisted rams to help lift the engine.

the prop having a bend like that is not exactly good, and yes it can cause the shaft to wear on the bearings.

With or without the complete trim ram system, the swivel bracket should come down and rest on the thrust rod assembly. Hard to tell from the pictures, but it may be missing. It's a long pin that goes through both transom brackets. there are 5 or 6 holes in each, and you can select how much static trim you want the engine to have. 385512 is the part number of the original OMC part number. Most factory diagrams show that pin on the 1976 exhaust housing exploded parts diagram: epc.brp.com It's item #93. At this point the lift bracket serves no purpose and can be removed-unless you want to rebuild/refurbish the whole trim system.

Take that prop off and heat the bent part of the blade with a propane torch until hot. Now gently hammer it back into shape on an anvil. The blade may break, or it may bend back almost like new. However, in it's present conditon, the efficiency is way down, so if you cannot fix it, replace it.

ok I know about the rod the motor rests on when it's let down. unfortunately it fell out on the way home the other day so i just put in some bolt from either side for the moment.

If I was to lift up the motor and remove the wood you would see 2 shocks/cylinders that I was told are supposed to act as a dampering system.

I'll try and get some more pics this weekend.

anyone know what spline my drive shaft is supposed to be so I can remove my prop and get another one.

and any special tools required for removing said prop?

you defintely seem to be missing the trim pump and Oil reservoir, if there isn't one inside the boat?. Based on the video the t&t system is on the starboard side of that motor and you are missing it on yours.

You have no power trim and tilt installed. There is no trim and tilt cylinders, no trim and tilt support brackets, and no pump assembly. It appears that the motor did not come with a power tilt and trim to begin with. Should be a 13 spline shaft.

You need an entire system basically.....all you really have there is the top attachment point bracket for the power tilt/trim rams.....the other rams are manual tilt assist items only.....is the wiring harness still in the boat?

no wiring... I looked under the bracket and theres 2 bolt holes on either side for the lower supports.
I'm thinking I could probably fab up some lower brackets and get some cylinders from princess auto and wire in a lil setup myself.
unless I can find the full unit for cheap online but I wouldn't know which years to be looking for.

Full OEM systems and cheap are not words normally used in the same sentence .....the system would look like this plus wiring harness, switch etc......

This image is taken from a '75 model.....no 135hp's were produced in '76 that i can see.

Apparently there was an accessory TILT ONLY unit available. It included the pump, but only ONE of those cylinders is connected to the pump, the other factory assist cylinder thing stays.

My 75 70HP has this system described above.

yeah I'm going to stick with the DIY I think. I could buy everything required minus the lower supports for under 120.00

I'm still trying to figure out what the deal is with the bar in between the the 2 manual assist cylinders.

Well, provided you can deal with the resulting motor setback i think you would do better to try and fab up a CMC clone over an OEM system.....whatever you decide keep us updated with pics.

You might be referring to #123.....listed as "trail lock arm assembly"......the rams #79 are actually listed as "shock absorbers".....although there is only one pictured there are two listed for that motor.
