Nothing beats living in Texas and calling the in laws in Illinois when you just got off your boat at 6pm in december wearing a pair of pants and sweatshirt and they are stuck inside with 6 feet of snow. If you like boating There is not too many other places that you can do it 9 months a year.

In Florida we can't boat for 9 months a year. We typically do it for 12 months. In December the temperature is still comfortably in the 70's.

Of all the states I have been to, Texas is near the bottom of the list.

I've spent a lot of time in Texas. Houston most recently and it is pretty dern ugly. With that said, I love Texas. The Hill Country is awesome, Austin is a great town to hang and party in. The Riverwalk in San Antonio should be enjoyed by all at least once. I haven't even seen Amistad, and I want to boat there. Mustang and Padre Islands are very cool, and for a California boy, 90 degree ocean water is basically unbelievable. We don't even think that is possible . . . I took the wife out to Mustang once to show her the warm water. She can't stop talking about it and that was 15 years ago

California is actually two states, Norther and Southern. Completely different mentality, politics, lifestyles, sports.

Texas is wild - i went to a Piggly Wiggle Grocery store drive-up window at 10pm an bought a six pack of beer, and drank one while the guy renewed by truck registration. Also, in TX, it's the law, you must have an open container and a hand gun on the seat to be legal.

As for me, I'm trying to figure how to fish 12 months a year in Homer AK.

Yeah, I'd say California is almost one big mofo Country of her own . . . I've lived here my whole life and I will probably never leave, I am in love with California and always have been. I have also seen a big chunk of the Planet and I would not purposely move anywhere except maybe Perth, Australia . . . Maybe.

I always say you could vacation your whole life inside California and never go to the same place twice and experience almost every climate, scenery, activity, city, camping, off the grid style whatever . . . except one: Tropical Water temp. We do have good snorkeling and diving though, just we never see water temps above 70 . . .

There is a reason that I live smack dab in the middle of 10 million people . . . ;)

This may be the most seriously Hijacked thread I have ever seen, Ayuh! :D

I can?t argue with California. I was actually born in San Jose. I still visit family in San Diego and San Francisco. Santa Cruz beach is really cool also.
I have been in Texas most of my life, I suppose that?s why I like it best.

QC,
Houston is ugly but, our current economy is far prettier than anything in California.:p

LOL we have just experienced a MAJOR dragonfly hatch here in the Great Lakes state. Not a second too soon either. By far the most I can remember seeing in my lifetime:)

Good timing because the smaller 'skeeters have had a good spring as well with the serious flooding that's gone on in some parts.

Also wanted to chime in and mention that while the economy in Michigan is uh...ayuh...what economy?!?...I do love it here and enjoy having lakes large and small, rivers with excellent flyfishing possibilities and 4 real seasons to keep things interesting. Living here is great if you get bored with the same thing everyday. Very similar to upstate NY, Maine, Minnesota and Wisconsin as I have spent enjoyable time in those northern states as well:D

Maine? Nope, never been there and there is absolutely no reason to go either.

Are you kidding me? What a truly ignorant statement. We have a large piece of land and a cabin adjacent to my Uncle's hunting lodge, he's a guide for moose/bear/deer/etc.

BEAUTIFUL place, near the Canadian line, with wildlife in the backyard, friendly people, and a simpler way of life. I paid $40K for 115 acres a few years back, that's the icing on the cake.

Re: Question for Bond-O

Since this has turned into a preference of States..
Nothing beats my home state of California! (Southern Calif to be more precise)

Mountains..Beaches..Deserts....Politics and Cost of living aside..There is no other state I'd rather live in..

I've lived in SoCal twice, no thanks. I prefer MD a 100Xs over Cali any day. No way I'd give up the Chesapeake bay, the best body of water in the nation.
