Re: Raystown

My uncle has a cottage there so I've been there many many weekends since I was little. The better public ramp is here http://maps.google.com/maps?q=39.76...68549&sspn=0.033052,0.107288&num=1&gl=us&z=14 next to the nuke plant. It's a nice wide ramp but it is steep. It's all wide and open from there all the way down to the dam. On that map you can see a little bit upriver where Muddy Creek comes in. You don't want to go further up than that as a first timer. There's a large sand bar down stream from that island you can see right across from the ramp where a lot of people hang out. There isn't much "to do" other than boating. It's not like Raystown with much in the way of marinas and stuff. There isn't a lot of access to it which is why despite being a fantastic open 20 mile long stretch of water, it's generally dead down there. Even on holidays like Memorial Day and the 4th it's pretty dead. My friend who normally boats on Clarke was blown away by how few boats were there on a beautiful Memorial Day last year.
!
Ill have to check that place out! I never ventured that far down but I have put in at the muddy creek launch a couple of times and was so cautious that I never made it down that far. I am planning a trip the first week of August to Raystown and camping at the seven points campground.

Re: Raystown

We had a blast at Raystown. Man that lake is just a boater's paradise. It was our first visit but certainly not the last! We cruised the WHOLE THING!!! Pictures here: http://s176.photobucket.com/albums/w200/ezmobee/Raystown/?start=all

Great pics !!

I kept looking for Starcrafts both Saturday and Sunday, but I guess our paths didn't cross.

We didn't get out either day until early-mid afternoon. Launched at Seven Points and kept shuttling different members of the gang in & out of the beach area. Spent most of our time beating the kiddos around on Big Mable. But we did take an evening run down to about MM 18-19 on Saturday.

Re: Raystown

Hey guys new to the forum. I just recently got back into boating and will be hitting up raystown this Saturday and Tuesday. Havent been there in 10 years since I moved away from home. Just got a new rig this year and we are having a family picnic at 7 points on Saturday so I'm probably gonna launch from there. Also plan on hitting it up Tueday after the weekend crowd leaves. If you see an 18' Seadoo Sportster dragging a tube around give me a shout. Should be around the 7 points area I would think.

Hey McFlyin, is your SeaDoo red? Where you around PeeWee Island in the James Creek inlets around 6 or 6:30pm on July 4th??? We were in the white Renken SeaMaster dual console ...

We got out about 5pm today and headed up lake, stopping at PeeWee Island for the youngest to swim a little. Then we headed on up lake to just above Heritage Cove (saw a guy pull in about a 10 lb channel cat just across the river from the docks there). Turned around and headed back in the dark. Got back to Snyder's Run around 10:15pm. A great time had by all!

Its just an illusion as you are floating past but the sites in the woods are as flat as a pancake; I HIGHLY suggest getting one of those, unless you have a canopy to provide shade during the day.

Yep. We checked it out and walked around the other week. I would say the vast majority of the sites themselves are flat despite the overall thing being sloped.

Personally I'd be far more concerned about the whole 1 crapper for 50 sites thing :eek:

Re: Raystown

Thats sad I hope they (you) found them?I had a buddy break a driveshaft in his jetski around james creek,so we headed out of cove around 4:00 to go tow him in.Towed his junk to james creek launch and left it sit, then took him to snyders run launch to retrieve his tow vehicle and trailer,Ya i know who rides a jet ski 15 miles up lake, lol. He his a old time school buddy,so he has been forgiven for ruining my evening of doing nothing but sitting on lawn chair knee deep in the lake, with a ice cold moosehead.
