Hi everyone
Could someone let me know what is the HP in my 1993 Pinnacle motor home with a 454 Chev. by Tonawanda engine?

This unit is new to me it has 41000 miles weight is 16000lbs is this a good engine?it seems to pull very well in hills, and it gets 11 miles per gallon the book calls it a 7.4 liter.

The unit it is pulling is a class A 30feet long motor home.

Yes its a great engine and with those miles it has a real long life left.
MPG seems real nice considering the weight.

Good luck with'er and enjoy, sounds like a lot of toy. :cool:

It must be OverDrive hey ? Allison transmission maybe ? Those are real good too.

Yes it has overdrive looks like it is a 4 speed the selector looks like this-overdrive-D and drive D-2-1.could this be the Allison transmission?

By the way this home is a class A home it is a Pinnacle maid by Thor very nicely built good quality.

230 Hp/385 Ft lbs.

In otherwords, it is pathetic. A 1999 350 cid multiport FI engine has more horsepower (not sure about the torque) and easily keeps up with my 454, pulling equivalant boat loads, on our local grades. And it does it with 50% better fuel mileage as well.

Those TBI engines were low compression boat anchors and because they were controlled by vacuum sensed ECU's, there was very little you could do with them ie, cam, compression, etc.

One thing that does wake them up (relatively speaking) is a good exhuaust header system such as Gale Banks. Whereas that motor virtually quits pulling at about 3k rpm, the header and exhaust system will keep it pulling well, right up to red line.

I doubt that tranny is an Allison. It is probably the same 4 spd AOD GM tranny that is in my '94 'burb.

I guess the 4L80E was out in 93 so it probably is that, basically a Turbo 400 with overdrive and a very stout piece.

Sure the Hp and torx are not the highest but it isnt a a race car and I'm sure the TBI 454 pushes that big ole Winnie better than a small block would, Course back in the day C60's came standard with a 292 straight 6 or maybe even a 305 V6 with maybe 100 or 150 Hp. So its all relative.
I do know that in most cases a TBI engine will run twice as long as a Vortec engine without having to change intake gaskets or replace fuel injectors, both problems at 100k on Vortec engines.

99 5.7 is 255hp with 330lb-ft of torque.

Not sure what year it was, but the 7.4 got "Vortec'd" too, cause by 1997 at the latest, they were 290hp with 415lb-ft torque!

Transmission is probably the heavy duty 700R4. Look somewhere for the GM build codes, (in the glve compartment on truck, it the center console on vans) and under the "M"s, look for MT1. That's a heavy duty overdrive trans.

I believe it was '97 for the 454 as it was for the 350. I remember that GM acted like they invented sequential multiport fuel injection when they did it. My wifes '88 Mercury Grand Marqui had it ten years before GM used it in these dinosaurs.
