Re: Ready to buy an inflatable

I just bought my 9.8 Tohatsu yesterday. NO BOAT! We should hook up but I am not wanting go clear to Long Island so ya can head out to Colorado. :joyous: Congrats on the boat.

On edit: I see boats to go sell your Azzurro as well as their Saturns. Seems they are about the same except the Azzurro is a couple of hundred more. Any reason why you would chose the Azzrro over the Saturn? I do see they have a 5 year warranty and 10 lbs heavier. I even saw where Boats to go got mixed up in their add and mentioned it was an "AM365 Saturn" Can you give me your reasons for the Azzuro over the Saturn? I may just order one myself.

Azzurro boats are Upscale Saturn boats
They have a few more features most notably a thicker bottom 1.5mm vs .9 mm
Thus the difference in weight.
If the boat is to be used in saltwater the Azzurro is a better boat
With that being said however.
If I was to buy a boat from them it would be the Saturn SD330W
The extra width comes in handy as a fishing platform

Btw
If you plan on leaving your boat inflated and outside without a cover then you will need a Hypalon boat as opposed to a PVC boat

PVC is cheaper but Hypalon last longer and is much more resistant to UV rays from the sun.
PVC can be treated with a UV protectant , but you must constantly apply it and you must keep the boat covered.
That is not to say that you can't maintain a PVC boat for 10 years or longer.
It will just require a lot more work on your part.
If you keep the boat deflated in a bag when not in use or out of direct sunlight then PVC will have a very long life

Most people with a PVC boat got it as a first boat or as an upgrade from a raft type boat.
By your second boat you usually go Hypalon

Check right here on Iboats
Look at the Maxxon or the Zodiac

If your heart is set on a Saturn, you can also checkout Coastal Inflatables .
They sell the same boats

Also isn't there a Mercury dealer near you?

Re: Ready to buy an inflatable

Just so you guys know. The thickness of the material isn't really important. The usually measurement given is for denier which is the thread count/weight of the material (not that important either unless it's either really high or really low). All of these PVC boats are low end, including the brand's we sell too, and are not to be confused with a boat made out of Hypalon. In a low end boat just look for a difference in features, whether the boat is welded or glued (glued makes it a 5 year throwaway), price and the warranty. In looking at a warranty you have to consider whether or not the warranty itself is enforceable and any expense you may have to pay to try to get it enforced. IE Proximity to a authorized warranty center for that brand is critical.

HI !
so it seems that my boat and my engine are coming tomorrow !!!!!!
after reading the tohatsu 9.8a manual , ii is my understanding that you need to replace the split pin with a new one each time you remove the prop .

do you really have to do that if for example you remove the prop to flush with fresh water ? (yes, already have question before having it !)

You don't need to remove the prop to flush with fresh water

Re: Ready to buy an inflatable

I am a recent buyer as well with never owning any sort of boat before. I purchased an Achilles LSI-122 (12'2"). I inflate/deflate every time and have the pull up to the ramp to putting in to the water at about 22 minutes. I use a coleman air mattress pump do inflate each tube and top of with a Bravo 10 foot pump. I wanted to get an electric pump that does high pressure as well but I can barely keep up following behind the little coleman pump so i doubt id save more than 5 minutes TOPS. Bimini top will be my next purchase as well as an anchor. I hope you enjoy your boat. So far mine has been a blast and I am not a lake person but more of a cove/exploring type person.

The electric pump is more for ease of use. Summer time you can break quite a sweat foot or hand pumping

Re: Ready to buy an inflatable

If you have an air floor you really need the electric pump.
You set the pressure and the pump automatically cuts itself off when the floor is the right pressure.

It works way better than using a foot pump

I'll have to look into it when it gets really hot then. right now I look at it as forced exercise which is not a bad thing for me.

That Achilles LSI-122 is a dream machine which would be on my wish list if we wanted a new inflatable. Congratulations.

After you fight the manual pumps to inflate the floor a few times, you will see the need for an electric Bravo. It would be money well spent.

Re: Ready to buy an inflatable

HI,

so i just got back from the DMV and i have the registration & sticker : 30 minutes !

Yesterday night i received :
- the boat
- the 'expensive' pump
- the wheels

- the outboard.
- oil & lube
Waiting for the stand now !

i just had time to open the boat box and put it in the bag , oh MY it is heavy : 120 pounds !!!

This morning , after charging the pump all night, i inflated the boat .
it is very easy and fast with the pump , dial the KPA and voil? .
ok , i follow the instruction , so inflate at 50% first

there is a wood plate under the middle of the air floor.

At first , i thought they forgot the tube cover but no , it was there on the tubes !!!
it is fixed to the boat with velcro all around .

I did a dry fit for the wheels and on the right side ( looking from the stern , one of the hole will be in the manufacturer plate.
do i use only 3 holes / 4 or drill through the plate ??

i am very close to go to the water, just need to make the registration plate, buy life jackets , and lines.

Pascal

You will need a hand truck to move the folded boat

Enjoy, that boat looks bad arse! I would find a way to ensure the transom wheel frame is screwed in with 4 bolts. Remeber that frame will be holding out the entire rear weight + motor + gear

Re: Ready to buy an inflatable

I could foresee a problem with the registration plate when mounting the wheel. Can you move the plate to different location, or is that legal?

No
You can't move it.
Can you take a picture and show us so we can come up with a solution

You can see it behind the right mount towards the top.
