Re: Rebuild of the 20 Ft Pontoon, Jolleen's Hole
Nice fix up on your 'toon dirtleg. The 55 Johnny on my 20 foot pontoon sits way lower in the water than your's, probably a good six more inches. It looks like your motor is not sitting down all the way on the transom. If you have any trouble with the prop letting go of the water, or any uncertainty about cooling water flow drop that motor down on the transom. If you don't have one a telltalle is an easy upgrade on that motor, and a handy aid to have. I'm pretty sure there is a link in the OMC FAQ page If that motor is delivering sufficient fuel through the carbs, and sufficient cooling water it will run for another 30 years. My '76 has 140 lbs plus of compression, starts with a tap of the key, and runs smooth as silk at idle or WOT. You've got a dandy combination there in boat and motor, enjoy.
