Hello iBoaters. Hope everyone had a great season. I'm thinking about adding two rod holders (one on each side) but I want to make sure that I'm not putting them in the wrong place. I've added pictures to show where I want them. Any feedback would be great.

Is that a stereo speaker below the holder in the sidewall? If the bottom of the holder isn't sealed you may want to move the holder fore or aft.

Again, if that is a speaker you may want to remove it and feel your way around the bottom of the gunwale if your sidewalls aren't foam filled.

jigngrub thats a good eye.

Shellback most rod holders are open and will take in a little water you definitely don't want them over the top of a speaker. As long as the area you want to put them is clear underneath with no obstructions and the area is an area that can sustain the pull of a rod then almost anywhere is good.

To facilitate an additional pair in the future, I would move them a bit closer to the transom

Thanks for the great advice. The gunwale is all fiberglass so water won't be an issue. Ill put it aft where the non- skid ends. Thanks again!

go to harbor freight and get a 30 deg drill support jig for the correct drill angle. After you drill protect the core of the deck with epoxy, 5 minute will work. you will need 1/4 bolts w/ lock nuts and the largest fender washers you can find bolt them in place don't screw them down! you may have to cut or bend the washers to fit the side bolts.

Assuming you don't already have rodholders near the transom...agreed that as far aft as possible is best, ideally oppposite corners of the stern. Then, as with the speakers, be sure the holders don't drain directly onto a battery, an electrical block/panel/switch, the fuel tank, etc.

Re: Rod Holder Addition

Are they just for holding the rod or for trolling also? Asking cause they look like a vertical mount will not work good for trolling 30deg,s is what you need but if just to hold rods vertical will do it....

Thanks for the help. The water will drain directly into the bilge and not on anything electrical.

I wasn't sure about that. I bought the 15 deg holders but if 30 deg is the recommended I'll exchange them after Christmas. Thanks again for all the help.

Merry Christmas to all the iBoaters!!!

Well in that case ... Im sure you wanted to put them forward for ease of access ?

Will putting them aft so far make it difficult ?

You could still put it where you wanted and install a rod holder drain tube to divert water away from the speaker.

Just an Idea..
