Well, I never believed in the one rubber/plastic frog I had in my tacklebox. It is a topwater frog, doesnt look that real, hooks turned upwards. I thought what the heck, I'll try it. I'm as hooked on it now as the fish I caught on it!! What a FUN lure to use, fishing it the thickest pads, just hopping it around right in the middle of a hot sunny day, hardly ever gets hung up. The hits are really exciting, but I missed alot of fish, have to get my timing down right I guess. Now I'm going to order a few Scumfrogs in different sized and colors. Anyone else use the scum frog? I dont know what kind the one that I have is, no name or anything on it.

My friend, you're hooked. I am too, I got one tied on year round. I've told myself to not pull the trigger early all the time but I just can't helped myself on at least a third of those blowups. I use SPRO Bronzeye Jr. frog instead tho. Frog really shine when it sunny and hot and you can't catch em any other way.

The SPRO Bronzeye looks good, but $10 apiece? Yikes, kind of pricey. I may buy one and see how it does compared to the scumfrog, which is only about $3. So one should wait just a second, feel the fish? before setting the hook?

I watched the little video on the Spro Frog site, I really like how the frog seems to swim. I'll get one or two and give 'em a try. Gamakatsu hooks too, I use them alot for rigging plastics.

Hey Spambot, first post and you jump right in like you've been posting for years? Must be a lurker who decided to break your silence ;) Welcome aboard! Anyway, I'm no expert, but yeah, I think that's what they're saying-- make sure the fish has had time to properly swallow the hook before setting it.

I haven't tried one of those frogs but I'm just discovering the joys of topwater lures, thanks to advice I got in one of my fishing posts by gonefishie and several others. Picked up a new crankbait that's a lot of fun to use. I should get one of those frogs-- there's a hundred little inland lakes with lily pads around here.

tmfd, whereabouts in northern Michigan are you? I agree, paradise on earth, even in the winter months-- and I hate winter!

I've got a flippin frog and I agree they are fun to cast and good for not getting snagged. I haven't caught a fish on it yet but I'm going to use it more and should be able to get a largemouth bass to attack it:D

Yeah there is nothing like a largemouth bass, bath tubbing your lure. It's incredible how hard they will smash a frog through the pads. I have often missed the first strike only to have them come back again.:D

So, the frogs catch fish, and more. A gator, yikes!! The only other topwater that I have had good success with isn't really a "topwater" lure. A Rapala shallow runner shad rap. It floats naturaly and in the mornings if the lake is flat calm, I'll throw in out and usualy catch one or two, this is in open water though. Can't drag that thing through weeds or pads.
Mike, we go to the family cottage up near Lake City, I fish the lakes in the area, Crooked and Mitchell are good bass lakes, but in Michigan as I'm sure you know, when fishing for bass it's always a good bet you'll run into a pike or two.

Have you guys ever heard of Fletchers Floodwaters? I'd bet you can have a helluva day with kermit up there.

I just told a guy that I've always wanted to go up there for pike and bass. I've heard lots of stumps and timber, perfect for bass and pike. I would imagine you have to be careful what with all the wood in the water.

My grandpa used to fish there after he got back from WWII and my folks live 20 minutes away on Lake Huron. We fished there last summer and had a field day with blue gill for my 4 year old son and 12 year old nephew.

Not hard to catch a pike there...just take your time while reeling in a gill and they'll take it from you:D

Great place to fish over 9,000 acres. The dam there generates all the electricity for the region as well. It's also the biggest nesting site for osprey in the midwest. They have towers there for them to nest in.

The stumps can be an issue so most folks fish on 12-14' boats like mine. We took a 17' sea nymph and had no problems just don't drive too fast.

Why limit yourself with only the frog? I carry the white mouse, grey mouse, yellow duck, and what I believe is supposed to be a small Baltimore Oriole. Before you guys laugh too hard, the duck is missing an eye from getting struck by pike.

LOL I am going to buy the crickets and grasshoppers too:D

I've recently found that trolling for bluegill is a viable practice and they tend to be larger than bobber and worm fishing while anchored. We've been getting some white crappie as a bonus too.

Nice fish...we will need you to post larger photos to verify the size:D...seriously...post some non-mini-avatar pics of that bass if you can;)

You mean one that is shaped like a baby duck? I didn't know they make those.

Love fishin topwater frogs, my favorite is the yum frogs, couple bucks for like 5. I switched over to braided line for this technique and really up'ed the catch ratio.

What does the braided line do that makes a difference?...I've been thinking about buying some for a while now for my baitcasting reel.

I'm looking for something with low memory and I've heard braided works well on baitcasters.

No strech, I was losing a lot of quick strikes with mono or fluro, most of the time the bait would come flying back at me. With the braid you can really give'em the steel, and pull them out of the nastiest of weed beds. PS. Braid works great on Baitcasting equip
