Re: Savage Avalon
i'm sorry to have to tell you, but... your transom is SHOT and definitely HAS to be replace in order for your boat to be safe. Once the wood starts to rot there is NO stopping it. Since you have such a large splash well the EASIEST way will be to Take the top off. IF you don't want to do that then you CAN cut the Splashwell off, and then glass it back in an id will be hardly noticable, OR you could fabicate an inner skin and POUR a Seacast Transom. BUT NO MATTER WHAT the transom has to be replace, IF you want a SAFE BOAT. As far as your Stringers go, I would bed them usiing PL it is a construction grade Adhesive That you can buy at Lowes. Works Great. Your bet place to get your resin and Glass supplies is USComposites.com. Great Prices and Great Products. You will need a minimum of 5 Gallons of Resin and 10 yds of 1.5 oz mat. You will need 3-4 yards of 8 oz mat to tab in your transom and stringers, and then I would recommend using 1708 biaxial cloth to finish the stingers, transom, and deck. You'll need another 6 yds of it.
