Re: seven_magnum's 76 Starcraft Islander 221 rebuild
Im finally making some progress on the paint Job. I got the 2.5mm gun and guess what- I got clumps out of it too! I called Sherwin Williams up and they told me to thin it more, up to 25% (Macropoxy) I thinned it pretty hard and just finished putting my second coat on tonight! The first coat dried for 24 hours and it turned out great! It's some tough paint. Tomorrow I am going to scuff the hull and shoot a coat of Acrolon 218 and let that dry for a day too. Sunday I will shoot the last coat and get ready to flip it right side up again! I can't wait!
Now I have a dilemma- I have been planning to get a rebuilt motor to drop into this girl. I found a deal on craigslist for a 22' glasser that the guy needs rid of. He sent me some pictures and everything looks to be in half decent shape. The motor is a 6cyl. mercruiser 165 with fresh water cooling. I asked for some history and this is what he told me.
Boat was kept in indoor storage for 12 years. He somehow acquired it two months ago and needs it off his property. I asked if it runs and he said he didn't know, he would have his son try and start it. (He's disabled and can't get in the boat himself.) He emailed me back and said it wouldn't start, he thinks the battery isn't any good in it. If it sat for 12 years I guess I would think so too. He said the engine is free, his son turned it over with a wrench to check for me. It has the MC-1 outdrive on it like my islander I guess I could use for parts? It looks a little rougher than the one I am working with now.
It is on a trailer that appears to be home built from a house trailer or camper frame. It looks like I could give it to my pop to make a good firewood hauler if we put a deck in it. The glasser would probably go on craigslist for free, and if it didn't move there it would find the dump.
What would you think a fair price on the rig would be?

I am heading up toward Allentown tomorrow for a big picnic and I could go the extra hour to take a peek at this pretty easily.
What says the Starmada? Should I stick with the plan of a reman 250, new manifold, risers, and starter program or would you look into this rig?
Oh, and I see some people have a never ending love for PL. I found this stuff at Home Depot, but I don't know what seems to be so popular? there were about a dozen kinds of PL adhesive to choose from!
Many thanks,
