And the restoration thread begins....I'm really looking forward to finding out about that wave in the transom.

Very nice! ..... i wouldn't have guessed "Mark Twain", she has a bit of a vintage Bertram look to her. Good looking boat.

Awesome looking boat! I didn't see the previous threads when you were inquring on this vessel. I like it, like it a lot. You don't have to say but curious how much you snagged her for? Also I noticed the Mts region but dry weather you out here on West Coast?

Twin 6cyl, one of my favorite engines. Someone added HEI distributers, electric fuel pumps and a fuel water separator. I have a feeling this was a special order because there are some small cutouts in the stringers to let these fit, so probably an afterthought or customer request, the engines match the build plate so it was done at the factory.

I'm in Albuquerque NM, boating capital of the southwest! :~) Closest lake is 2+ hrs away

With a little trading and profit from another project, I'm in it around $900, in real money about 2K, not great but not a bank breaker either. I looked at it as a rescue mission, she deserves a little tlc.

Re: She's home!

Hey all, made some progress, I am convinced that this was a one off order, or an experiment on Mark Twain's part. I think the hull was made and then modded to fit two 6cyl engines, they match the build plate so I know they are original. There are cutouts in the stringers etc to fit the engines, but they were not glassed in, just bare wood, and the glass matte over the stringers is thin and let water in the bilge in. It worked it's way dawn to the transom where the delamination is taking place. I really need to remove both engines and redo the stringers and lower transom, pretty intimidating, but can be done. It can be used as is, but is really in need of attention. I'll post pics of the cut parts, but I can blow air through the stringers and it comes out screw holes at the lower transom.

Should I keep this thead alive through the process or start new ones? Thanks

I remember seeing that boat and thinking it was pretty darn cool. Looks like both drives are standard rotation?

Sure do have your work cut out for you, great to see a can do attitude because that's what it takes.

You could always drop down to the restoration forum and start a thread there when you start off fresh and embank on the path of no return aka tear down.

Both standard rotation as far as I can tell. It has trim tabs too and I was wondering why you would need them with the merc outdrives trim?

several reasons for tabs. level the boat, get the boat on plane quicker, keep the boat on plane at a lower speed, level the boat at speed, or even the possibility of dropping them all the way down as trolling brakes
