are you installing the top portions of the wood transom??? I made mine full height and width from solid pieces....... I would think since the wood is through bolted below onto the knee brace as well as up top and all along the side, that a full "U" coverage of the wood on its lower shelf rest isn't that important...a simple 90 degree angle riveted below and angling inwards.....would be enough.....the transom will rest on the horizontal portion of the angle.....and the trough bolts will sandwhich it towards the transom skin.....bob

The plate should be plenty strong, Kev. Much better looking than the tin worm holes..
do you have enough flat surface there to mount an outboard and not have it teetering on bolt heads????bob
