Well I did run down and pick up my gallon of rust oleum to start painting but of course they had no hardener so will check another place tomorrow for hardener and maybe tomorrow night get my first coat on all the side boards. How much hardener are you guys using? As long as you guys think I will be okay topping with oil base after my screw up on the floor.

Most catalyst hardeners are mixed 16:1 it should say on the can. Allow it to sit approximately 20 minutes before using. The hardener will have a pot life of about 8 hours. As a result, only add hardener to the amount of paint that you anticipate using with the 8 hours.

Auto parts houses that carry paint will have the hardener.

If you're worried about mixing latex primer and oil based paint you can google the subject and be just as worried after an hour of reading. Check the can you used and see if it says you can use oil based over that primer. Here is a copy from a website I found -

"While it used to be necessary to apply oil-based primers over oil-based paint and latex primers over latex paints, many primers today allow you to switch between them as long as you prepare the surface properly."

Yea I that is funny, I did google mixing primers and topping with oil base. You are right after I read many links I was even more confused. I also remember reading the same one you did about today's primers can be mixed so I guess I will see what happens.

I agree nothing better than new. I should have hardener tomorrow so as long as we get work done early enough tomorrow I am going to try to get my first coat of paint on the floor. I also was looking around for pricing on seat pedestals that can be locked from spinning also for when my 3 year old and 6 year old are in the boat. I have been looking at buying 4 of the 2-3/8 or the 2-7/8 ones so I can remove the ones not needed when want all the extra room. I really ain't found anything I like with good reviews that will not break the bank. I even thought about the flip flop seats again since then I could get all the storage under them for jig boxs. So I really ain't decided on seats yet. I know I will at least do the little jump seats in the back on each side again.

I got the 3 coats of the gray paint on the floor and got silica mixed in with it. I am going to decide this morning if that is enough if it is then I will be able to reinstall all my side boards back in today. I also went over to bass pro yesterday to take a look at seats. I looked at swivel seats and basses and the only thing I noticed was the swivel removal able seats you can not lock them in one position when I have my kids so they are not spinning all over the place. So I am not sure if I am going to go with back to back or what I am going to do for know. I am still not sure and figured I am short on the funds for seats yet anyway so I will decide soon.

At the bottom of the page theres a few helpful articles about safety and choosing the right seat/pedestal.

Helm rated seats and any seat that could be swapped, if both are easily removed (like removeable post seats), need positive locks for both swivel and slide.

Also some posts, pedestals and seats are only rated to be used while at idle or below a certain speed.

That was interesting to read I admit I was not aware of the different styles to meet the requirements. It doesn't even look like they have a removable pedestal mount that meets AD and AP that I can remove when not being used and still have smooth floor.

I'm enjoying reading your thread. I have a very similar Holiday which I want to get started on this summer. I have a 1984 Mercury 115HP Tower of Power that I harvested to put on the StarCraft. I'll probably decal the motor up to look like a 1973 which is what the hull is. I got it home, gutted it, cleaned it up a little bit with some Krud Kutter, found a modern trailer for it, and threw it in the storage shed to dry out! I think there was a raccoon living under the floor since the boat had been parked for years.

Keep up the nice work so I have a template to follow!

Well floor and all the sides are all back in tle gaps in the floor up front on both sides were the floor ribs showed to make sure I don't drop nothing in them. I will show a picture of them areas later after foam dries and I trim it. I am going to start with recovering the back little jump seats I think I have enough gray material I just have to get some new foam for them.

Thanks you can see were I removed the material from the dash wood. I am thinking about sanding it lightly to get the glue residue off and maybe just using a wood stain or something to coat it with kind of like teak since all the wood in the these years was teak. I also am also thinking about ordering some material and making my own custom mooring cover for it.

The bow support is mahogany and after sanding I would seal it up completely with spar varnish. The other bow supports are mahogany too but to do the job the right way you have to remove them. Mine are sanding and spar.

Happy new year.
I got the new universal sending unit all installed in the fuel tank today so the fuel tank is ready to go all back in tomorrow. I also am going to work on figuring out what I want to do paint or cover the dash tomorrow so I can reinstall the steps and the glove box. I am going to order a 0-90 ohm fuel gauge to use for the new sending unit.

Just for a update I got the front step and dash all back together I also got the gas tank all back in and just waiting on the fuel gauge to show up to wire that up. Then I probably will go ahead and get it tarped up and pulled out of the garage till I get the money for seats and really want a terrova trolling motor.

Well I set one of the old seats in the boat today to see if I would have enough room to install them on both sides and still have enough room behind them to be able to net fish and everything. I will have roughly 44" behind the back to back seats to the back jump seats. I also rewired and soldered all the connections and even installed a fuse panel under the dash. I installed fuel gauge and a volt gauge on the dash with the original tach and speedo. I just need to start upholstery work on the back to jump seats. I really need to see how hard it would be to recover the back to back seats I am thinking it would be just easier to buy them for sure. Here is some pictures of what I got.

Okay for a update. I got the three little pieces of upholstery around the outboard well redone. I also was looking at getting ready to start on the two back jump seats and happened to look at the new xxxxxxx fishing sale they have going on in two days. They have little fold seats that will fit in each spot for 25.00 I cant buy the the foam to do the original ones for even close to that cheap. So I am going to get them in the next couple days. I also hope in the next week or two I will order the back to back seats and I guess I am going to go with the terrova trolling motor. I also talked to the previous owner and happened to ask him if he had the bimini top since it has the slider tracks on the sides. He said he would look he happened to call the other day and let me know he does still have it sitting in the rafters in the barn he thinks it has been sitting up there since about 1980 but I figured if material is shot atleast I will have the frame. So I need to go get it soon I am not sure what they even look like on these boats.

Was shopping today for the big fishing sale and ended up buying 6 of the folding boat seats. Since they were only 25.00 each figured can't go wrong. I am going to put one in each back jump spot on each side of motor. Then I thought for the 350 dollar savings why not buy 4 more and pull the material all of the back to back seats and put them on there also. Will not lay down unless I remove the backs and screw each part of the seat to each piece of wood. Which did think about that but wife said she didn't care about the lay down seats. So I also thought about mounting them like this for a year or so and also even thought about just making one piece of wood to fit over box and fasten seats to that. That way still have the box for storage. I even thought about making new boxes if I need them taller. I have to check that still. But looking for some more opinions what you guys think I should consider.

Some call that seating arrangement "the head knocker" for obvious reasons but many use the back to back seating when space is limited.
