Congrats Andy, just fired mine yesterday for the first time since I got it a year ago :redface: putting the gear's to the test tomorrow :D {in a barrel, not yet water ready}

Those electric shifts used type 'C' which I believe is no longer available, I think you want to use 'OMC Premium Blend gear lube' but wait for someone more knowledgeable to be sure.

Awesome news Andy! Your rig is going to fly with that 85hp.

Boatguy just splashed his 16' SS with an 85hp Johnson and he hit 46mph and he said it wasn't even wide open.

Well...as it turns out boatguy says his speedo probably wasn't working correctly and the numbers may have been a little off:eek:

Sorry for spreading bad info:rolleyes:

I will have my gps on the rig and hopefully get some speed trials going this weekend if I can get a few things figured out(trim/tilt).

What year is the 85hp?

 I just ran across this... Sorry for starting the bad info, not your fault at all Huron. If I would have not been a bit under the excitement and had a perfect speedo this wouldn't have happened

Hope you're getting your boat out this weekend Andy, I followed your resto this past summer when I had my Imperial, trying to get ideas and such. Great job!

Re: Starcraft project: "STOLEN" PIC UPDATE 7-31-09 COMPLETED!!

guys, i think im in barney...

all this time ive been thinking about why he sold me this motor so cheap... because it wouldnt start? because its electric shift? because the trim pump leaks?

today it hit me.

I DONT HAVE THE MOUNTING BRACKETS!!! This era motors have the 2 seperate brackets that bolt to the transom on either side of the motor. so i cant mount the motor!

found a set on ebay...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/OMC-...oatQ5fPartsQ5fAccessoriesQ5fGear#ht_500wt_750

are these universal or will i need to find a set specific to the motor?

Grab a cold one and sit back and watch the water intake to see if they're flying in.It is possible for it to happen on some OBs.

Re: Starcraft project: "STOLEN" PIC UPDATE 7-31-09 COMPLETED!!

well got some work done this weekend... turns out there was a bees nest right UNDER the tstat housing.

friday replaced the impeller and o ring in the trim pump. yesterday got it mounted up, tach installed, controls and trim switch installed and new battery cables made up. today we are hitting the water to test her out, barring any hard rain. the only thing i am worried about is the throttle cable, the metal clip that is supposed to hold it on the linkage is missing, so i need to make a way to keep it on there just for today. i will be ordering a new cable, but i need to make sure she is going to perform first...

i thought about it. but it was sold as is... and for cheap. i had no problem picking up all the things i needed that were missing due to the low sale price of the motor. after i pick up a throttle cable, i will be into the motor for around $300- $350...

you wouldnt happen to have any throttle cables laying around, would you? i think i may need a new trim pump too because its still leaking a bit, seems like from the manual release...

so you want to come out to chateaugay lake with your rig today in case this motor dies out in the middle of the lake??
