Re: starcraft ss22! restoration customization Minnesota great lakes! MN scuba diving

I've had my '76 22' SS OB for a year now and I am extremely happy with it . I had considered converting it to an I/O because I already have a complete 120 mercruiser from a glasser I have that is no longer seaworthy but I have decided to stick with the O\B, it handles great , has plenty of get up and go, I have had the boat up to 40mph according to my GPS with a '71 115hp merc, no tilt\trim, fuel economy is better than I had with a 14' glasser with a 60hp 'rude. I'm only running the smaller lakes here in Ontario but I think a full transom with O\B bracket would be a great set up for rougher watersIMG00354-20120825-1116.jpg

share the updates. motor is swapped from donor boat to starcraft. we had trouble reaching over the high hull of the starcraft. ended up tillting trailer up on 6x6 beams, and pinned the tilt wide open with 2x4 jamed into it. lucky it wasn't welded.(tilt mechanism on the tilt trailer). picture comes close to the excitement in the neighborhood for this project. tip of boat is up higher than the roof!

other interesting details to keep up to date.
had to pull the aluminum cosmetic cap off the back to pass the block in.
also had to pull the nose cap off to unscrew this back pannel off. i just happened to set this triangular piece of casting on my other 18ft starcraft and noticed its the same piece! probably good to know if i was looking for this piece. the 18 is late 60's!
im torn between leaving this back open like it is. as it would be nice to walk fully to the back to fight fish and move onto the incomming dive platform. but it may also add some slight strength to the back. floor also is planned to be replaced. we are having debate as to what thickness to replace. i like the 3/4inch which is what i put in my other starcraft and its nice. doesn't seem to overweigh. but this is alot more wood. some in my group suggest using thinnest i can get away with, and that it will be enough. the savings in weight is more important. any one have suggestions. also will have to replace prop. we are not in agreement with what pitch. too many cooks here. one puts in vote for 15pitch or so, other wants 21 or higher.
