JB weld could do the trick for ya and EZ gave a great suggestion on how to lay it up. You could also just put a small SS bolt with 5200/4200 to seal it up too. Sounds like you are making excellent progress!

I would go with Jas's suggestion and put a SS bolt in there, after looking at the location. That area gets scuffed up a lot and there is less chance of a leak with a bolt.

Thursday, washed the boat and prepped for painting. Couldn't find the Dupont Self etching primer, so I purchased the rustoleum etching primer at the auto store. Our Lowes does not carry this etching primer. Seems to have worked fine. Went out of town, so the boat continued to dry over Friday and Sat. Pics are below.

Today, I did a light sand then wipe down and applied the first coat with a roller. Took me over three hours. Either I am a very slow painter or I see why a lot of you go with a sprayer. Below are my pics of my first coat. My plan is to let it dry for at least 24 hours, then light sand and add coat two. I may even let it dry 48 hrs since it is very cool at night.

For the first time, I am making progress in the "put back together" phase.

This week, while the finish is hardening, I hope to get the interior aluminum pieces sanded, cleaned, primed, and painted. I also want to get all my wood pieces for the deck, transom, and interior cut and first coat of epoxy applied. We'll see how the week goes.

Your making good progress and I'm enjoying your thread.
Another option for the seat pedestals is a storage box. I made mine 8" high and the swivel seats mount to a hinged top cover. The cover swings forward and gives some much needed storage space. Made it from 3/4 plywood left over from the floor and epoxied that too. Very cheap to make and its rugged.

Jasoutside: Cold in South Ga means you have to wear a jacket! Right now it is getting up to around 60 during the day and dipping in the mid 30's at night. I am an Athletic Director of a Middle School and we will finish basketball season in three weeks and outdoor soccer will begin Jan 24th. Could you imagine soccer in MI during Jan? I did live in MI for 5 great years as a kid!

MichealP: Thanks for the idea about the seat box. I tried to find something on your profile page for an example, but could not. I really would like to see what you did.

Boat: I added the second coat around 3:00 today. Only took 2 hours today. Today I thinned the paint 25% and it seemed to work better than yesterday. Will post some new photos.

Haven't been able to add my third coat of paint due to possible weather and other obligations, but I did make a lot of progress.

I was able to cut out all of my wood pieces. Got the deck cut, side panels, the sliding doors for the back, the console pieces, and the transom pieces. Took 5 total sheets of plywood to get all of the cuts.

Don't have pics of all the cuts, but here is the new deck.

Expecting icy weather, so everything will shut down Monday.

Plan for the week when it warms is to finish paint job, fix trailer bunks, and work on the consoles. Any suggestions on plexiglass for my windows? Right now I know I can get it at Lowes.

Haven't posted for 10 days, but have been working steadily. After the georgia ice storm melted of course!

Took apart, then sanded down, cleaned, and painted metal consoles, splashwell (which I removed when I took out the transom), and bow seat support. Finished one bunk board. Just need to attach carpet to the other one and mount.

Plans for the week; apply final coat of paint to bottom of the boat. The sides of the hull look good, so I am not going to apply a third coat. This weekend, gonna flip her back onto the trailer. Then I can make sure the new deck and transom fits and begin the epoxy process. I really want to start putting her back together. Received my Ga Boater's Registration card and stickers, so that gets me going! Slow week though due to basketball games everyday and my garage is a man cave, so I have to work outside mostly.

Tonight I plan to order several needed items, like nautolex. Any preference on size of transom eyes? I keep seeing bow eyes with two bolts, are these the same thing?

Question, for my side panels and stern sliding doors, they came covered in vinyl. I see several have covered in carpet. Is there a pro or con to either or just preference? I am thinking vinyl.

One more thing, I am considering going back to lounge seats and using my two purchased seats as fishing seats. Any one see a negative to this or is this again preference?

Should have the boat back on the trailer today. Ordered nautolex for the deck from defender.

Does everyone epoxy their wood panels or just seal them with some type of wood stain?

I epoxied my deck but just porch & floor painted all my other interior panels. The fact that my boat isn't likely to ever see much weather had a lot to do with that decision.

Thanks for that info. My sliding doors were by far the worst rotted, so I think I will epoxy them since they are small any ways. For the rest, the wood really wasn't bad, I just went ahead and replaced it all. I will cover those in the floor n porch paint.

Finally got the boat back on the trailer. Spent the afternoon taking out all of the screws that are on the gunwal. Below are some before and after photos.

This week I hope to get the inside cleaned and prepared for gluvit, fit my new floor to make sure it fits, then epoxy.

When I retrailered my boat, I went underneath to make sure everything looks good since I replaced my bunks. I noticed that the last roller beneath the stern does not touch or hold any weight. It is all sitting on the bunks in the stern. Do I need to adjust this roller up or is this how it is intended to sit?

The last roller on that type of a set up is mainly there as a guide (and so you don't whack a crossmember when reloading). It's doesn't really need to support any weight. In my opinion it would be fine as-is or possibly lightly snugged up but it definitely doesn't need to be actually supporting any weight.

Gt, forgive me if I am mistaken, but in your pics I saw the splashwell but did not see the section that goes from port to starboard. The top piece that mounts to the splashwell towards the bow. This is the section I am thinking of modifying in order to shorten the splashwell. Did you you something different?

It is still attached to the boat. If I am right, this is the piece in which the sliding doors slide beneath? Correct? I still have to sand, clean, and paint. The post above, #53, the last photo on the right shows a picture of it still in the boat.

Just curious; why would you want to modify it. Keep in mind I am new at this, so anything I learn is beneficial, definetly not questioning!

GT, mine is an 18 ft offshore which is the same as an SS if I understand it correctly. I still don't know the exact year, but it's around a 70 or 71. Anyway, I am thinking of reducing the spashwell by about 8"-12" just to gain some deck room. I am sure you will agree it takes up a lot of room and after looking at the newer models I can't see why I couldn't do a little modification myself. From what I have thought of, if I remove the area between that metal we talked about (brace?) and the stern, then all I need to do is add metal to the brace. I don't know squat about doing pics on here, so I guess I will have to show ya'll in my thread when I can. My goal is to do it cheap, easy, and safely.

Was able to spend a little time this afternoon. Cut out my new windshields. My old ones were all cracked across the bottom. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a better way to attach the windshields to the consoles without using the taylor made windshield bolts? I am just curious if that is what caused the stress to make all the cracks?
