Im thinking you used the Permatex® Anaerobic Flange Sealant. Here Thats the right stuff.. not the
Permatex® Anaerobic Gasket Maker. Here

But I could be wrong.

Re: Sticky rings??

OK....Block half installed per specs. But I really need some help here.....

The screws that hold the half on.. including the 6 large allen key screws where torqd to 60-84 in-lbs. that seemed really loose . then I torqd the main bearing screws.. the 4 that hold the bearing 0n the cover plate to 18-20 ft-lbs.. I stripped one screw and am afraid to go any furthur on the other 3. now that seems like alot!! Does all this sound correct??
I can get a new screw for the main bearing ..no big deal I didn't hurt the threads in the bearing case.. ANy thoughts??

Re: Sticky rings??

i used the permatex anearobic gasket maker 51813 witch is exactly the same stuf as loctite 518.

i would trow out those 4 bolds and buy 4 new ones with new 0 rings.hophely you didn't damage ore bend the retainingplate including the ballbearing and seal.
i putted a new seal in the lowercrankcase cover.
because they are famous for failure, wich will cause damage on the lower ball bearings.
my mechanic told me also to put a little tiny drop of gelseal on the 4 retaining bolds before sliding the o rings on .

you didn't pay 75 dollars for the decals right?
because i dont want to spent that much on decals.

reeldutch

OK the 18-20 ft-lbs are the 6 large allen bolts inside the block half tey call them the main bearing bolts. My marine supply hooked me up with 4 new ss bolts for the one I stripped.
No harm done.

Yea I did pay 75$ for the new decals.

Re: Sticky rings??

i must say they look great but i don't think i will spend that much for decals.

today i tried to get new exhaust cover bolts.
the mechanic told me he didnt have them but i could cet the bolds from the hardware store.
he told me there an 1 1/2 X 1/4"20 treath stainless steel.
i need 18 of those he said and one is a little longer bud he didnt know how long.
the long one that sits inside the watercover i still have.
This is a bubbleback exhaust.
if somebody knows the size off the bolds i'm sure
hotrod would apreciate that too.

reeldutch

how far are you now hotrod?
i have the bypas covers on and the cylinderheads.
tomorow the exaust and may be the intake.
then i think i'm ready to bold it back on the moter. i cant wait to start to rebuild the carbs.
i got the kits already

Re: Sticky rings??

I picked up my cover bolts at my marine supply.
$3.50 a pop.. I bought 6 the others where fine.
The only thing left for me is drop the PW on, install intake/reeds, rebuild carbs and install..wireing etc.....ALOT!

Question... My manual said.. "apply a thin coat of omc gaskets sealant to each side of the head gasket", as I was applying it...I applied it over a sentence that read....DO NOT USE SEALENT  well it was too late so i finished it up and put it on.. the other head I didn't use it..

What NOW?

Re: Sticky rings??

the cylinderheadgaskets that i got are impregnated and dont need gasket sealer.
my powerhead base gasket to adapter is also impregnated and doesnt need gasket sealer.
i dont think you got a problem.
as long as you torqet them down in the right sequence.
is your 93 a bubbleback also?

reeldutch

Re: Sticky rings??

The wrench at my marine supply said ."as long as I didn't move the set screw linkage I should be fine. I will check it tho.. Not worrying about it just yet . but that will be after I get help putting back all my "UNMARKED" vac lines..

OBJ or anyone else...Your thoughts on me using gasket seal on the head gasket?

Re: Sticky rings??

OMC Gasket Sealer is fine, in fact I'd recommend it. Thats whats impregnated into the gasket. There are some sealers that react unfavorably but youre OK.

You might make 100 posts on this thread yet...........

Good luck!
