Stiletto Bay Pro II - Good for My Boat?

Have a new prop on its way for our boat, and was hoping for confirmation I made a good choice.

Boat Info: 2004 Glastron 195SX Bowrider & Volvo 5.0L 220HP I/O with a 1.60 ratio. Glastron says the boat is 18' 7" long, 90 3/4" beam, weighs 2550 lbs. with a 21 deg. deadrise.

I'm currently running a 14&1/4" x 21" Michigan Wheel Aluminum 3 Blade Prop, and we boat on freshwater at 900ft above sea level. With just my wife & I in the boat and trimmed for speed, I get 53mph (GPS) at about 4800rpm.

The new prop is a Stiletto Bay Pro II 4 Blade Stainless Prop in 14&1/4" x 20". I'm hoping to improve Hole Shot, Midrange and Cornering without sacrificing too much on the top end. The boat normally has 2-4 on-board but can have up to 6-7 occasionally.

The one I'm getting may be the older model with a pressed in hub. Are these the same as the newer ones except for the hub?

Who makes Stiletto Props, I can't find a homepage for them?

Thanks

Good prop, it has good stern lift which helps most strendrives. Just an fyi - the Bay Pro IIs are 14" diameter, not 1/4. Some of the BP IIs made several years ago got out mismarked. No big deal, it still does what it was designed to do

They are made by Precision Propeller, same as Turbo, owned by Yamaha.

Do you think the 14x20 BayPro II should be about right for my boat? http://www.precisionpropeller.com/ Interesting, no mention of Stiletto Props on their website.

Any difference between the old style and new except for the hub?

Thanks.

Based on what you've said it should be a pretty good match. I have one I run sometimes on my flats boat but it's really made for sterndrive or stern heavy boats.

The baypro will increase your midrange response quite a bit along with a somewhat better hole shot...Top end maybe a 1-2 mph loss its a great all around prop. Every time i try something new its always back to the baypro..you should notice a smoother overall quality or feel to the boat

For myself 90% of the time im either just off plane or doing 40 and that is where it shines on a stern drive..

Do not mix a 2 up with a 3 they are different props

That's pretty much what I'm after, do you think the 20" pitch will be too much for this boat or about right?

Is there any difference between the pressed in hub models and the new ones? How long ago did they go to the square bore with hub inserts?

I dont have any opinion on hub design as long as it works...The 20 should be dead on....crosses fingers..:D

LMAO Gunner, even when I am sure I am right I still cross my fingers on BOTH hands.

Thanks for your opinion, I'm hoping you are correct. :)

Think I have most of the expert opinions on whether this prop is correct for my boat but not yours, care to weigh in? I'll provide detailed results when I get it (and it warms up just a bit).

83Evinrude, when Dhadley or walleyehed recommend a prop, I LISTEN.
Gunner told me that a long time ago, but I had to learn it for myself. But I would like the numbers for my database, if you don't mind.

I love my BP II. It is an awesome prop. I first tried the 20" pitch and my rpms were 4600rpm lightly loaded, and 4400rpm heavily loaded. I wanted the prop for mainly watersports so I bought the 18" pitch to bring rpms up a little more and now it is 4900rpm or so lightly loaded, but it is unreal out of the hole and midrange.

I think the 20" pitch will be great for you.

Thanks for your comments, it is supposed to arrive on Monday. Hopefully my 5.0L has enough torque to pull it.

You should be just fine..I have a 186 which is 19' and 2800lbs a 4.3 gi doing 220hp they say... 1.66 drive doing 56 at 4950...Your v8 should have a tad bit more tourqe..If not drop a 4 barrel on it and get a 22....

Thanks for the info, you run a 14x20 Bay Pro II on that boat? I thought the 4.3L boats had ratios more like 1.8 but perhaps not on the injected models. I actually have been considering putting a Holley four barrel on it but want to see what the prop does first.

Re: Stiletto Bay Pro II - Good for My Boat?

Sorry this update was so long in coming, this year everything was against running my new prop much less testing it. No need to go into details, but 2010 has been a very challenging year for my family.

Over the weekend, I made some test runs with the Stiletto Bay Pro II (Stainless 20" 4 blade) then switched back to the Michigan (Aluminum 21" 3 blade) and tested again. There were two on board (wife and I), full fuel tanks, all our normal ski/fun gear and a cooler. Speeds taken with a Garmin GPS, two runs on each prop (different directions), no wind at the time and they were taken as quickly as I could change the props. Forgot my stopwatch in the truck, so unfortunately couldn't record acceleration figures.

Stiletto - 51mph @ 4600rpm
Michigan - 53mph @ 4850rpm

At a cruise of 3000rpm the Stiletto is 2-3mph faster
This puts me at just over 6% slip considering my 1.6 ratio leg, which seems pretty good to me.

Subjective results:
Faster out of the hole and pulls up skiers quicker
Hangs onto the water better in tight turns
Smoother at all speeds, and better cruising
Better grip at docking speeds, idle produces faster boat speed too
Looks way cooler on the leg :D

I got a great deal on this prop, it was a scratch and dent sale (sticker residue) if you can believe that, but even if I had paid full price I'm happy with the results. Thanks again to all who responded to this thread.

Good to see...I would have thought the v8 would outrun the v6..intresting...Maybe its elevation of 1000 ft..dunno...;) time for a 4barrel....That should wake her up to 4900 and ..54..55..:D

You too noticed the smoother overall quality, Once you boat for a while with it and try the alum 3 blade the differnces will become more prononced..especially that 20 to 50 burst...;) where 85% of your boating occurs
