I was out the other day with a buddy of mine on New River, NC fishing, only this time the tide allowed us to go much farther up river that ive ever been before. I heard some buzz that all the catfish had swam farther up river than normal because of the droubt so I went up river to see. While anchored off we got our lines in the water and sat there quietly. After a while i heard this whooooping noise that I ignored and went back to stareing at my line. A couple minutes went by and I heard it again, this time I realized It was something I didnt recognize and looked at my buddy and whispered "what was that?" "Did you hear that?" We continued to whisper about it for another couple minutes during that time and heard it 2 more times, making a total of 4 times hearing it. We started to talk louder after that and then the noise stopped. I have been in the woods for a long time and have heard every type of bird there is. This had the tone of a hoot owl but definately not the pattern. It was a steady and drawn out "whooooooooooop", then a minute or two then another noise. What gets me is that when we started talking louder it stopped, and that it was right before dark, when there is barely any light left, like a locator call. I dont know of any animal in North America that makes a sound like that and im not one to believe in big foot or other mythical creatures like that but this kinda freeked me out! Anyone ever heard a sound like that?
