Re: Tallcanadian's 1976 Sunray Refresh.

I got all my 'glassing done and my first coat of primer on the top done today. finally. The weather is suppose to be nice all week so I'm hoping by the weekend the painting will be done. By the time I get her in the water it will be frozen over. lol. Anyway, I hope everyone is enjoying their summer at least.

Keep diggin' you're doing well.

You gotta get it going this summer so you can post us some OTW photos! Some things we shouldn't need to wait all winter for.

I have not made a cast in anger since the last week of June, and even then we did not launch until the sun was down.

It's just too hot and I'm too fat.

Re: Tallcanadian's 1976 Sunray Refresh.

No more excuses. I put the first coat of white on today. If the weather keeps up, second coat tomorrow. Here is a couple of pics. It's hard to tell but you can see the refection of the fenders on my trailer. Where the tape is will be the dark blue paint. I hope everyone is enjoying their boats and having fun on the water.

Thanks Woodonglass. I've been praying for years for a heat wave. lol. Today was cool, about 60F, but I've been putting off enough. First coat looks good. But I promise, the second will look better. I think I may have this Interlux paint figured out. I learned alot when I painted the hood of my motor. It's the same paint as the white on the boat. By next weekend, I expect to be putting it all together. The weather is suppose to be decent.

Please do. lol. According to my truck it was 15C which is 59F. Yeah, I too want to see it on the water. It's been a long spring. But if all goes well, I should have the paint done by next weekend, then put her all back together again..

tallcanadian,
Good to see some more progress. The paint looks great too. I'm getting a little time on mine today, I really meant very little. :(
I'm sure you can't wait to splash her, just keep plugging away and you'll get there. At least that's what they tell me.:p
Great job and keep the pic's coming.

Well, white is done and now I have the first coat of blue on tonight. It's starting to look like a boat now. Now I'm getting excited...lol. Here's a couple of pics.

I have to find a pin stripe that has blue, white and a touch of red to match the hood on my outboard. Hey, maybe little american flags ..lol.

Thanks John. Actually i didn't plan how many coats. I was going to go until I got a decent reflection. I think you can see that in the white. That is three thin coats of primer and 2 coats of white. I also wet sanded with 400 grit between each coat. I used the same paint on the cowl of the motor, so it will match perfectly. The blue only has one coat right now. A wet sanding tomorrow and another coat. The bottom I had done already but I'm going to sand it down to smooth it out a bit more. Then I can blend it nicely and keep putting on coats until I get that shine.

Looking good TC,

You may want to machine polish everything once you are happy with the painting. I've had great success with 3M products. The shine really pops after this process.

Thanks to everyone for their kind words. It does look pretty good. I'm about 80% happy with it. I'll see when it's all put back together how it looks.

Re: Tallcanadian's 1976 Sunray Refresh.

Hmmm....second coat of blue had less shine than first coat. Not sure what happened there. I know the temperature dropped last night so maybe that had some effect on the drying. So, I guess another wet sand and third coat tomorrow. See if I can get that nice shine back.
