Re: Terry ABF floor repair/rebuild

Getting closer- after lots o" sanding and careful inspection, I found some "bad" areas that were not done correctly at the factory and decided to grind out the flaws and repair -not costmetic really but kinda sorta I did not want any area that could be a problem later on. I am setting my goal as for next weekend to gelcoat the bottom. Should be do-able ( famous last words...):rolleyes: anyhoo, pics of progress;

Re: Terry ABF floor repair/rebuild

two questions / statements.
1. I have yet to see pictures of the inside floor being foamed .

2. Out of all these rebuilds the only finished photos are real close up or so far away in the water we can't see the finished job.

cuzzx- I decided not to to install foam in the floor. I hope my pics are adequate. Actually, I take far more pics than I post to photobucket and I don't really even post all my pics to here.I just try to get the best of the best for here.

Re: Terry ABF floor repair/rebuild

no, the pictures are great.
About the time I got to that point I did not remember seeing foam or the finished floor.

Then I got to thinking to myself, In all the rebuilds on this site I have only seen one that showed some foam and a few plastic bottles.

I'm looking into a open ash craft that needs a new floor. So I'm reading all I can.

Your boat is looking real good.

The bottom is gelcoated!!!! yaaaaa!!!finally got the bottom sprayed-What a pain in the @ss!!! spraying that stuff is like trying to spray pancake batter:rolleyes: anyhoo, pics as follows I first filled in the low areas where there was bare fiberglass even though it had been feather sanded it was technically low.. keep in mind I did not try for perfection regarding filling every little chip or pinhole.. this will be a fishing boat not a trailer queen.. it will get banged up but it will look nice for now..

Re: Terry ABF floor repair/rebuild

Now, these pics look funny because I sprayed PVA over the gelcoat to help it cure ( instead of wax)

Re: Terry ABF floor repair/rebuild

Hey D.Spencer i stumbled on to Iboats when i googled Terry bass boats. Thus i have become aquainted and interested in your thread. i started searching Terry boats after i found one for sale on cl and made an appointment to check it out. Well, i ended up buying it and now all these resto projects on this site are giving me (good/bad) ideas about the future of this boat. Good cause i am learning all sorts of things about fixing boats. Bad cause this is my first boat and my "i bet i could do that" kicked in immediately. The model i have is not the same as yours but i hope to glean some knowledge about Terry boats from you to maybe give me some reference as to what to expect ifin i make mine a project as well. i hope you don't mind. Its been awhile since you have posted and i'm wondering about your progress. anything new to share? btw nice work!

Thanks Scrawnyronny! Yes, I have made some progress, I got the PVA off ( washes off with water) and wet sanded ( 320,400,600,800) the hull and it is partially buffed but just more like started on. I will post some pics as soon as it is buffed and before I flip it over again :D

In order to paint the top, It cannot be so high in the air so I made a different cradle for it to sit on for this part. It is like a trailer just much shorter.

Lookin good Spence. Just so happens i took the bow hook eye of my 460cm today. What a nightmare. No wonder it was loose. Shot the afternoon on it thinking I was just going to snug things up a bit. Yea right. Looks way worse than your old one. Where did you get that new one? Gonna be hard to go fishin tomorrow without it.

Re: Terry ABF floor repair/rebuild

scrawnnyronny- I got the new bow eye from West marine. It is stainless steel and massive - 1/2" . I- boats actually has them much cheaper but I was in a hurry so, what else you gonna do? ( I paid about 20.00 for this one). I need to order some other hardware from I boats like the rear bow eyes and some other stuff. The old bow eye ( which had been replaced at some time) was installed crooked for some reason and I did not like it anyway, much too small of an opening to get the winch hook on and be able to put a safety chain on also-well... more like, had to loosen the winch line after pulling out of the water, hook the safety chain on then tighten the winch down again- a real pain in the *****.

Re: Terry ABF floor repair/rebuild

You guys are gonna hate me..... You are really gonna hate me...... *sigh* ... seems that I did not get enuff gel coat on and coverage was not good, body work showed thru badly-deep scratches, missed areas, what not. I was not happy with the red but was willing to put up with it untill.... I wet sanded it and went thru the gel coat right away in many places. When spraying the red, I did something dumb and followed the directions and lost two spray gun cups of mixed gel due to catalyzation-almost fired off in the gun.. just seconds away from it *really* . Losing the two gun cups caused me to not have enough material to spray. Time was running short for this project ( for reasons I cannot explain fully here) and suffice it to say I have to get it done. I ordered red pigment but there was not enough time to get neutral gelcoat in time to get it re-sprayed.( I tried) So, I fixed the bad body work, re-sanded it and shot it black because I was going to mix extra red with white gel coat-that was available locally ( which makes pink) the black was in hopes of making it darker if it got close. It did not even get close. It was *pink*. I tried mixing some black in to darken it but it just got deeper *pink*. *sigh* Truth be told, it looked more like pepto-bismal but *PINK* ...ACK!!!!! I simply cannot have a *PINK* boat... I am after all, a *Man*... or last time I checked I was... So, basically, the choices were gel coat it white( had some still)gel coat it grey( had the pigment for that) or the ....*pink*... Sigh.....I let my son make the choice and he said *White* so *white* it became.
