I would be sending those before and after photos to every PA politician I could get an address for. Absolutely pathetic.

:( That was one nice looking dock and clearly didn't cause any water way issues. That's just wrong what they did.

Just something to thing about but maybe they are getting to many request for permits for new docks? The land is owned by the state so what process was there if I wanted to build and lease a dock next to yours?

I could see not renewing old leases to a new name to remove all state owned land with leased docks. The alternative for them is/was to not renew the leases at all.

I also believe that they should clean that area up better.

Clean up better ? You think ?:p

Probably the permit process and application for a new lease is exponentially higher than renewing an old lease . ;)

Of course it wouldn't be the first time that politics were involved in such policies . I'll give even odds that 1 or more comissioners is being influenced by owners/investors of lakeside property where the shore is privately owned .
Being that THESE properties will be the only ones with a dock , the property values just went up .....

Tashasdaddy's story is very relevent to the situation in my town .
We have an old abandoned marina , perfectly good spot , just needs dredged . The ACOE has refused EVERY request for a permit , reason being that the old marina never had a permit .
The old marina was established PRIOR to any permit requirements ..

Now the plan is to destroy half of a public park , for a private development , funded by public dollars .
Not saying we don't need or want a marina , we do . I just find something fundamentally wrong with giving public tax monies to private investors , who should be spending their OWN money !

My old Rescue Squad foght the ACOE for almost 2 decades to get a permit for a boat ramp behind our building , to speed response times to water emegencies . Nothing but endless Red Tape , and , enough BS to fertilize the world .

We suddenly got cooperation after 911 , BUT , only after our independent org folded and turned over assets to the County Fire Service and EMA .
I had long ago left , but it still cuts . The ACOE is SATAN , IME . They will lie for no good reason , and when you call their BS , they just start telling bigger lies , at a higher volume .

Went off topic , but then again , politicians and thier incompetent apointees are a universal evil , at all levels of government .

No new permits will be issued. The only permits which were issued were to existing docks when the Commission took over the lake in what I think was the early 60's. Never one issued since. It was a compromise between the property owners association and the Commission at the time when the lake and land was sold from a private family to the Commission. The Commission has had a "beef" with this from the beginning and has been trying to eliminate all docks from the lake by attrition.

Another thing to clairify the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania does not own the lake and the land, The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission does. They operate independently from the State government. They are a "hybrid" government within themselves.

Re: They tore down my dock today

I find it ironic that the "commission" bought the land/lake. Hmmmmm, how did they get that money? Does the commission make money? nope, they used your tax dollars. Seems like something bought with tax dollars should be PUBLIC land------meaning belonging to the PUBLIC. It's interesting how once the government gets control of something, you have to go through all of the Sherriff of Nottingham's hoops to get into "Sherwood forest". The "levee board" here in louisiana owns some land around a local lake and guess what---they POSTED it, telling the public to Keep OFF. Huh? I thought the public OWNED the land.
Obviously not.

It seems the same situation is occuring here. It's OUR land, keep your dock off of it. That was a nice, neat dock BTW. I don't think it was hurting a thing. The Sheriff of Nottingham says different, though.

What a croc...I feel for ya....Worst part is YOUR taxes paid for this to happen as you are an upstanding citizen far as I can tell..

Maybe eventually the docks that are owned will succomb to some IMMENIANT DOMAIN nonsense and they will wipe those away as well...

Insane......

Just hit me...

If your family owns the land..and you had some type of lift that reached out, swung to the lake...well they couldnt touch ya,, maybe

Too little too late I'm sure, but couldn't the form and the $ have been mailed in? That really sucks. I'd be pretty upset over the whole thing.

Every 3 years the Commission inspects the docks with a member of the property owners association, after learning of my fathers passing they would not even send the form.

Makes me ashamed to even live in the commonwealth, what a joke. Sorry to hear how it all went down.

Re: They tore down my dock today

Where I've always boated, the federal government owns all the land around the lake, up to max. flood level of 1034 (ft. above sea level). Normal summer levels are from 1000 to 1020 with winter levels as low as 990. When you convert verticle elevation to lake-bank distances, that's a lot of public land.

As time has past, easement exceptions have been on the increase for border land owners to infringe and build docks, swimming decks, etc. It's becoming very unpleasant. Years ago, you could step out of your boat just about anywhere you wanted to take a whiz. Nowdays, you just might be in someone's percieved back yard. The border land owners act as if the land is theirs down to the water's edge, but it's not.

With all that being said, I'm not too sympathetic to your loss of dock. My preference would be for no one to have a "personal dock" unless they owned all the land that contains the lake.

yet another reason that the commonwealth of pennsylvania stinks. Unelected, Unaccountable, faceless beings in an angency can dictate how to use your own property.

WHAT?!?!?!? Seriously? This would absolutely kill a huge number of small communities that surround many of the large lakes in this country...not to mention driving up the slip costs of what marinas there are on these lakes and pricing many of us out of boating.

Take some empty plastic jugs or Gatorade etc bottles with ya. That is what truckers do too.
Anyway, lake front property cost $100s of 1000s more for the access and are taxed accordingly. We also pay dock permit fees, walk way fees, lighting fees etc.
Lots of people don't like boats or docks or Jet skis etc etc. Lots of haters out there. Don't be a hater :D

that's odd for me too! usually i hit my thumb...swearing ensues...but i digress...
i don't want to get political, but...they are going to come for our rights one by one. we may not own boats much longer, or motorcycles, or be allowed to fish. one by one folks. 2nd amendment will be the first thing, then 1st amendment. this will never end. china will own us.leave your parties, 'cause they left you years ago. it's our power. we loan it to them.
take back your voice, and the future of our kids.

Sorry but that isn't you dock, it was your grandfathers than your father's. You were just leasing a spot on the lake. It's no different than having a slip at a marina and being told that you can't dock your boat there anymore. Just be happy that you have a place to use your boat.

As for 'your taxes paying for it' that was said in a few post that is not the way it's done in Pennsylvania. The fish commission is separate from the legislature. The only money they receive is through the sale of boating licenses, permits, access fees and fishing licenses. They receive NO FUNDS from the general state funds. They pay their own way just like our game commission does.

The PFC can what they want, when they want, when ever they please and all the complaining won't do a bit of good.
