Glad to have you pop in anytime.
The gouges are a bummer but it's only a little time. Right!

Great work on your Glasstream Bob. You certainly have had to do a lot more work on yours than I did on my Grady. Nice job! I don't know that I would have had the guts to do what you've done. Keep the pics coming. When I get a chance I want to read your work from day one. I just jump scanned for the moment and lost track of where you actually are on the project. Ron

Hey Ron,
Thanks for stopping in. I really appreciate the comments.
It has been an adventure that's for sure, but I have enjoyed the work so far. I still have a lot of work to do but it's getting closer. I will be working on the exterior hull repairs my next trip home and then either re-gelcoat or paint.
Take care and stop in anytime.

Thanks Bob, much appreciated. I've been busy for the last few weeks so I'm trying to get caught up. It's amazing how much a person misses when you don't stay on top of things.

Hey Bob, I wondered about gel-coat, but the paint on miss morgan is holding up really well. I don't beach her, I'm sure the sand would be hell on the paint....but since she has such a shallow draft it isn't a big deal. The gel-coat is a lot more durable, but after watching skibum I'm not sure I would want to go thru that! He didn't really have any chines, I can't imagine how long color sanding and buffing would have taken on Miss Morgan. I think either one would be fine, you just need to figure out how you are going to use the boat....and after all, the bottom will be underwater!!!! Of course I check out the bottom every time I put her on the trailer, lol! :D

Hey arch,
Thanks for the input. I'm glad to hear that the paint is holding up for you. I have been on a search for a bigger air compressor. I need one which ever way I go. :p That's the good part. :D I love new tools. :p
CheapboatKev,
I will be looking forward to the salute. Thanks for the kind words too.
I have been lucky lately and haven't traveled that much, as far as Texas, Mexico anyways.
I have been working on the new graphic's for the boat but I'm going to save them for a while longer. ;):p I'm sure everyone will like them.
Thanks again

Hey arch,
Thanks for the tip. I'll check them out. The one you listed looks good but like you said a bit pricey. I know it's hard to beat quality.
I hope to have the graphics finalized soon. Maybe I'll give a preview.
Take care my friend.

Hey tinkeringwackyone,
Glad to hear from you again.
Thanks for the kind words.
I did get lucky on the donor boat. It seems all the time I spend on CL is paying off.
I'll be home this weekend and hope to get most of the dings and gouges repaired.
Thanks again

Re: Timid but determined Glasstream restoration

Bob, as glossy as the bottom looks now, my recommendation (you know it's only an opinion and an opinion may be worth what it costs - SMILE) If she were mine, I'd repair the areas that need repairing and give it a deep polishing (3M compound and a machine buffer). It would be the least costly (wife smiles) most durable (Bob smiles) thing you could do. That bottom gel coat has a lot of life left in it indeed.

You can always change the paint scheme on the sides using poly paint and the spray equipment you already own.

Hey Clay,
Glad you stopped by. I was looking for this thread. Last time I saw it it was about 9 pages back. :p
I know where you are now. I spent some time in Cal. several years back. (about 40 years ago).:p
I wouldn't mine racing but I don't have much of a chance. I only get a few hours every couple weeks. :(

Thanks for the input. I still haven't decided what to do. I had thought about doing what you stated but the bottom has a lot of scars I'm trying to fix.
Some areas along the keel hasn't got any gel coat on it.
Thanks again

Re: Timid but determined Glasstream restoration

OK folks,
We a having some technical difficulties tonight. My Computer is not reading my mini SD in it's adapter and I can't seem to find my card reader. So no new pic's for now.
Not much to report anyways. I had other things that needed my attention before I could work on the boat. :(
I did get most of the graphics off, just about 8 ft of pin stripe to finish.
I also got several of the areas in the back of the boat repaired. Twice. The first time I saw some air bubbles and ground it back out and refilled.
I got the entire bottom section of the boat sanded with 220, but I still have several areas to fill on the bottom but mostly just scratches and nicks in the gelcoat.
Now I have some questions.
1. What grit should I use to prep, if I plan to paint or re-gelcoat the hull?
2. If I decide to Gelcoat again how much of the old gelcoat should I remove?
3. When I was checking out the bottom of the boat I noticed a dip in the hull just to the starboard side of the keel. It's about 10" wide and about 1/8" deep. Just in front of the transom. Should I build it up and then fair it to get it level or am I worrying about something to small to matter.
I would appreciate any help.
I will post updated pic's as soon as I can get them to load.
Thanks again
Bob

Nice to see you back at 'er.

Sorry I'm no help on the gelcoat work but if you could pm Oops I'm sure he could let you know. I've seen some of his gelcoat repairs that were invisibile.
