Re: Timid but determined Glasstream restoration

Hello All,
I did make it home this weekend but I only got maybe 20 minutes total on the boat. _ife got in the way again. I'll let you fill in the blank.
Sorry not much of an update
The only thing I really got done was grinding out the rest of the damaged area's.
I hope you had a more productive weekend.
Take care
Bob

Looks like your making progress, I would say those qualify as gouges! Wow! I Dont think I would worry too much about that little dip. I don't think you will ever notice from a performance point of view. Sounds like a lot of work on something you aren't going to see.....but then I have done stuff like that so I will just shut up!:D

Hey Arch,
I always appreciate your opinion.
I'm just going to get the glass damage corrected and then decide about the dip. I probably won't worry about it unless someone gives me a good reason to fix it.
Take care my friend.

Re: Timid but determined Glasstream restoration

Hello all,
Well, It was a busy weekend around the house again. They keep breaking things faster then I can fix them.
I only got a little time on the boat again so I decided to make as much progress as possible. I decided to finish off the glass damaged areas along the bow and down the keel. I also fixed some areas on the strikes. I thought I would be smart and use a lite kick on the cat to give me more working time and It to forever for it to kick even in this heat. So I started working on the trailer. Mick would love that. :p
But I finally got to sand the filler on the boat and now I have some pin holes to fill and then the sanding really starts.

So that was the extent of my boat work this week.
I hope everyone had better luck then I did.
Take Care.

Hey every little bit done is that much closer to splash day!

Maybe set some rules...for every broke item that you have to fix, they replace the time with sanding or any other resto chore you'd be happy to miss ;)

Kenny,
With everything they break, I'm not sure I can afford to have them help on the boat. :p
Thanks

Thanks
CLAYAROBINSON
Maybe I'll have it in the water next year.
I'm just making sure I don't get in to big of a rush and start taking short cuts.
I'll get there someday and it will be right when I do.
Thanks again.

Glad you got some time on it...Mick will be very excited to hear you are working on the trailer, lol! :D Have you decided how you are refinishing the bottom yet?

Re: Timid but determined Glasstream restoration

Arch,
It's really funny, I have been getting home more and getting less done on the boat. :(
As for the bottom, I think I'm going to try to match the current gel coat as well as I can and if I don't like it I'll make the choice at that time.
I'm leaning toward Gel coat if I can't get it to look good with the spot repairs. I know, more work but I think it will be less in the long haul.
Take care.

Nice! Trailer work:) let's see some pics!!!

Sorry I haven't been around in a while. The boat bottom looks good though! I wouldn't worry about the dip. However, I had a dip to were the rollers on the trailer were pushing in the weekend hull. I ended up grinding it down to fresh glass and using the 3m premium filler on it. Mine was deeper then 1/8" though- it was probably closer to 3/8" I think.

Hey Mick,
It's good to hear from you my friend.
I was saving the trailer work until you got back.:D
I know how much you love it.:p
I realized that after I finish the bottom of the boat I need to have the trailer done before I put the boat back on it.:( So the trailer work will start in earnest in the near future. So far I just straightened out one of the side steps. I used one of my favorite tool RBH. (really big hammer.):D
Well I hope all is well.
Take care

Re: Timid but determined Glasstream restoration

HSF,
I have felt like using it on the boat several times, since I started this rebuild.

Hello folks.
Well, I got some more time on the boat this weekend. Most of the pic's are pretty boring at this point just, sanding, filling, sanding filling, and on and on. I'm not sure it will ever end.
I stopped at my supplier Friday on my way home and picked up some filler and I think I would rather sand glass. Man is that stuff hard.
Well, here are a couple pic's.
0828101727.jpg

I filled in the deeper areas with short strand glass and resin and then filled the pinhole with the filler I pick up. It's a bit weird to, the filler is Grey and the hardener is white. When it cures it turns green.
Here is a side shot.

One more of the side near the Stern.
0828101728a.jpg

After it cured I sanded it all down and then tried my hand at color matching the Grey. First attempt was what I thought was to dark, The second attempt was too lite.:( Oh well I'll try again next weekend.
Hey arch I'm starting to think harder about your method for the paint.:p Sure would save me a lot of sanding if I don't get this color match right.
Perhaps I should send you the money for the plane ticket or just drop it ( the boat ) off at your house. :D
Take care everyone.

Looks like she is coming along Bob! The prep is the hardest part, once you get that done things will be down hill for you! I don't have any complaints about Miss Morgan's paint. It still looks great after a season of use. I have one or two little scratches on the bottom......still trying to figure out exactly how they got there! Doesn't matter the only one who sees them are the fish! One nice thing about it, sky is the limit on colors if you go that way.
