Thanks for the great comments. I really like to work with wood and my shop isn't bad but I still need a couple of Items. I just have to figure out how to get them past my BH. :D
Thanks again

Bob, Looking good until you get back. I was at the boat shop today and the guy told me to use exterior grade wood glue to join my two 3/4" piece for my transom. Kinda set me back a bit. That isn't what you should be using in your transom is it???

Hey micks110,
Thanks, Hopefully I'll be back home Friday night.
As for the adhesive. Some folks use resin and CSM to laminate the ply, but most seem to just use PL premium, you can get it at Lowe's or Home Depot. It is an exterior grade adhesive. Use it to re-attach the wood to the glass transom skin, and to bed the stringers. Mine is laminated with the PL too.
Just remember you will seal the whole thing with resin and glass anyways. I will seal mine before it is put back in the boat.
The PL is really strong too. My original transom was just stapled together.
Have Fun.

Re: Timid but determined Glasstream restoration

Bob, Just read the thread and have found a load of encouragement. I'll be following the thread as I get mine started. I'll have to get a rebuild thread of my own started soon. I recently acquired a '85 Glastron Conroy x-19. (I've heard that same topic a few posts back I believe, 199Q). Looks very similar to yours except my floor was already gone!. Looks like you find time better than me. Good luck and Thanks for the pictorial history. Great! BTW It's good to see a fellow WW that uses Incra. Love my fences and jigs. Wow there's a lot to absorb on this forum.

Have a good Christmas!

Mountain_Man,
First off, welcome to Iboats.
Thanks for the complements too. Yes, I do like the Incra fences and jigs. great tools.:p
You are also correct about the amount of information on this site too. I am also definitely addicted to it. :p
I spend several hours a night on here when I'm not home. Great stuff and great group. They will help you any way possible.
Good luck with your project.
Thanks again Mitch

Re: Timid but determined Glasstream restoration

Keith,
That's a heck of a complement,and I wish I could. :(
With that said, I will be home Friday or Saturday and be off the entire week. If I can get the weather and the wife to cooperate I'll get a lot done. I might even get everything below deck glassed in. :D:D
I'm looking for a cheap belt sander to grind the deck Flat to make it easier to glass. I learned that from You.
That's my plan. :rolleyes
Thanks Man

HECK YEAH!

As for a cheap belt sander, I picked up the $40 harbor Freight 21x3 belt sander and i have no complaints. Also, a resin roller early on would have solved a lot of my problems. I am going back to the foam rollers for the deck even though they die after about 1 hour of use.

Thanks Archbuilder,
I think it's pretty good welder and it's made in the USA. I did some research on them.
I wish I could hang out and practice, I wouldn't want to slow you down. :p
I'll be back soon. :D

Re: Timid but determined Glasstream restoration

Bob,
Since you are away and reading up check out my post- I took some closer pics of the keel area and I think I have a plan for it.
I like how archbuilder dropped my name in here- yeh I want him to get back to the boat and finish the trailer already. I haven't even looked at my trailer outside next to the garage- I hope it's still there:confused: Better check on that tomorrow!
You said about the wife- Ya know what- mine has been so awesome so far- yea she gets pissed at me for going out there every night but she has been very accommodating. As long as I'm playing with the kids when I get home from school, and helping get the kids ready for bed, she lets me go out afterwards. Christmas may throw a wrench in things though... We have a week off though so hopefully I can get the pass to go out during the day too sometimes!
Hopefully the wife lets you get back to your Saturday when you get home;)

Re: Timid but determined Glasstream restoration

Hey micks110,
My wife is actually pretty cool. She gets upset because I don't like to sit around, I'm either on the boat, out in the woods, or working on my wood projects.
I don't get to spend much time at home, so I understand she wants to see me sometimes. I'm still not sure why. :p

Thanks for your comments. :D

Re: Timid but determined Glasstream restoration

Bob,
I'm with you there. I can't wait to get started and have too much to do first! My college bounceback son set up a bedroom in my woodshop. That used to be a garage before I closed it in. Got a barn but I have so much junk in it that I can't get the boat in.
My wife doesn't appreciate the existence of the boat at all! Oh well I'm going to start a thread soon, and get some opinions. I think I need a planning commitee before I even start on anything.

I'm way past being warned now! I'll start a thread shortly to show what I want to do. There are a few threads in this forum which I started that may lend a clue :)
