LOLOK. Found that drain. Alsowas able to get to the oil pan drainplug; what a mess. Looks like poop! So if I spill some under the motor, I can spray some water down there and it drain?
Do you have a swivel socket set?
You have to pull the oil plug out regardless. Once you get it out let drain for couple days. Yes through the transom drain hole with an oil bucket. Change oil filter and refill with thin oil. Run for about five min and drain again. I had to do this three times and still the oil was white on the dipstick.
I read on the net to use diesel gas and diesel oil mixed together to flush the engine out, I haven't tried this so take discretion. Maybe there is a engine flush out there. I know there is not one where I am.
You pretty well nail it Pete. Ok, after a few oil changes with the filter also and all the water res out (flush) and ready to go it would be wise to put a pint of duralub in. I used it in my last inboard and I swear by it. Purr'd like kitten.Yes it would be good to get oil in the cylinders. Plugs out, squirt oil, plugs back in a couple threads & spin it over.
A good detergent will get rid the oil in the bilge! May have to do it a couple times but it will go away.
Assuming you got the old filter off, pick up a couple cheapies a 12 count case of cheap oil & use that until you get this fiqured out. Put the manifolds back on & run it. Get it warm enough to suck out the oil.
Run it with the new manifold you got, not the suspected bad one.
Check the oil pan for distortion from frozen water. should be alright depending how much water.I was able to look all around the motor and I do not see any water leaks or oil on the motor. I am hoping the water was from the rusted out exhaust manifold. Any thoughts to look anywhere else?

Use the widest flat blade screw driver you have. At the front of the engine, set the blade between the manifold & HEAD and wack it a few times. Keep the blade parallel with manifold & head. You will hit it pretty hard. That'll get it open enough to get somthing in there to pry it up.
You said you had the ALL the bolts, I assume you pulled the distributor!
Unfortunately, yes! Your split wide open & new manifolds ain't gonna fix it!
Can this be welded?
No..... External leaks, usually, internal. nope.
Why can't internal cracks be welded?
I have changed motors in cars lots of times. Is it easier on a boat?
Any suggestions for a decently priced long block?
First off... All of you rock! I found a new motor.. Now to pull replace.
Does the stern drive have to be dropped before pulling motor?
