Re: Ulrichsen Alure 25 Flybridge

Started fairing in the sole tonight, The edge of the floor will show around the helm. I decided to fill the strake with foam and will glass over that.

Came out pretty good, the foam will take 12 hrs to set. Might be tabing in the sole tomorrow!!!

Re: Ulrichsen Alure 25 Flybridge

Just missed a Slickcraft when I was looking, SWEET boats. I ended up with a fair deal on this one, $1,200 with a trailer that's never been wet.

Already gettin 2 foot itis or should I say 3 foot itis, this cabin sure feels small after spending so much time in it

His hasn't seen water since 96, not seaworthy at all. He traded an old f150 for it. I'll try to get a few pics for ya.

A little more progress today

Some more grinding, this is where the aft bulkhead will go

SANY1884.jpg

Started tabbing in the sole, the foam didn't exactly work as planned. Thats what they make grinders for.

Steady and slow progress, things are really picking up at work and cutting into my quality time itching and scratching.

Laid down two layers at the aft of the cabin so I can get started with the aft cabin bulkhead. I try to mold the mat before wetting around odd shapes

That corner wetted out

SANY1898.jpg

The perimeter has one layer I'll get back to it after installing the aft bulkhead.

Sealing up the starboard aft bulkhead

Re: Ulrichsen Alure 25 Flybridge

I want to get the bulkhead in because I originally was going to have the door on the starboard side, but, it looks like it would take too much space out of the cabin. I'll look at it again after the bulkhead is in and I clean up the workspace again.

Pretty close, probably only gonna have to put it in and take it out a couple of dozen more times.

Port side sealed, that 9.5 foot beam eats up a sheet of plywood quick

Nice job on the bulkheads. I feel like I'm just doing some minor cosmetic stuff compared to what you're doing. Are you trying to get your boat finished for this summer?

Re: Ulrichsen Alure 25 Flybridge

The original plan was to get it wet by the end of summer. Things are taking longer than expected, especially with lowering and glassing the aft deck sub frame. Those pics you posted made up my mind on the aft deck.

The PO used 2X4,s just set on the hull stringer and it made the deck hit the transom about an inch above the deck drains.

Question about your cabin step....... Does it drain straight down into the bilge?

Re: Ulrichsen Alure 25 Flybridge

My Luhrs has 2 deck hatches, and in each aft corner there is a drain tube which has a hose going to a plastic thru-hull fitting in the transom. (the thru-hull is a bit lower so the hatches can drain by gravity) But to be honest on my boat a couple of the hose fittings are messed up where they're supposed to connect to the hatch so at the moment I get a good bit of rainwater collecting in the bilge. I had about 4-5" of ice in the bilge up until about a week ago.

Glassed the back of the cabin bulkhead

Tool storage and batt locker

The first piece of the aft deck the starboard side of the Alaskan bulkhead will be built off of it.

Things are starting to come together now, I'm not working off any plans just making it up as I go

Re: Ulrichsen Alure 25 Flybridge

For lack of knowing what it is actually called, the sail trim panel starboard side had some rot in it too.

I decided to clean the look up I'll glass the panel flush with the glass return, here is the shim to line things up. I also patched up all the holes from the antenna and the outriggers that were mounted right in the gunnel drain gutter.

Panel installed

Attaching the lower cover

SANY1970.jpg

Glassed in and finally ready to put the starboard alaskan bulkhead in

SANY1972.jpg

Once I get the bulkhead in I can install the eng batt and start wiring the panels.

Looking good, a couple of things I would be wary of, make sure you can access that fwd bilge pump, I would swap it out for newer w/ auto switch.
Re-plumb your tanks, the older hose isn't rated for todays ethanol fuels. Its easy to do it now, it will be a beeach once its all covered up, you might consider cleaning the tanks out too. Double clamps on all tank fittings per USCG.

Re: Ulrichsen Alure 25 Flybridge

Thanks for the words of encouragement, doing a little bit every day you don't realize the progress you've been making.

Got my elec panel roughed in so straightening out the rats nest is next, will be good to stop itching for a while. I'll post some pics later so you can see the plan. Input is appreciated

The tanks will be replumbed, lots of questionable fittings and hoses in there. The forward bilge pump can be accessed through the V berth. I'm not a fan of the automatic bilge pumps, I will keep the float switch and the new 1000 GPM Rule, will add secondary pump and float switch for dual redundency.
