Hello everybody , hope you can help. My 1989 Omc Cobra keeps chewing up v belts. I suspect pulleys may be out of line or even wrong belt fitted (got new one on order). Now this sounds really dumb, but I have been trying to sort it all morning. The old belt was shredded so I had a spare one (not sure if right size so ordered new one), anyway I went to fit the belt I had just to see if it fitted . This is what has got me baffled. There does not seem to be enough room for the belt to fit between the lower pulley and the inside of the engine mount. I cant believe you have to undo the front engine mount to fit the belt? (surely not). So, Should the belt fit without having to undo the mounting. I have the manual on a CD but the layout of were the belt runs is not shown, sounds stupid I know but does anyone have a diagram of the route the belt should take.I'm pretty sure it runs were I think it does but through experience I no longer take anything for granted. My next move is to check the alignment of the pulleys with each other, is it common for them to move? If anyone has any ideas I would be very grateful. Thanks again all the way from the UK.
