What does your typical boating weekend cost?

Include the type of boat.

Fuel, eats, beverages.

And any non-fixed costs such as launch fees, docking fees, pottie pump out, etc.

Good question, results worth looking at, but I think to be fair you have to also post 'non-boating' weekend costs. Taking the family dinner/movie/shopping you can drop $200 easy.

Oh, you don?t want to add it all up. It?ll make you think twice about what you do every weekend.

Re: Weekend Boating Price Tag

Depends on the weekend and destination.....Let's assume for the moment 2.50 a gallon for gas. I have one lake 15 minutes away, another an hour away and maybe 2 hours, 2 1/2 hours to the Chesapeake. I am towing a 16 foot Checkmate. So, I can spend maybe 10 to @ 50 bucks just getting around. Now, are we running to a specific destination, are we skiing, or tubing around, or hanging out swimming....easily 20 to 100 bucks, maybe 200, plus food and beer, soft drinks, water, another 50 to 70, maybe another 100 tp 150 if we grab a room for a long weekend.

That is all kind of high end, definately NOT a common occurence.
At a guess for low end 30-40 bucks for a few hours on a week night and the high end, for a weekend....:eek:

I'm sorry to hear you gotta drive two hours to a boating destination. . That really bites. I drive 35 miles at most, and that is only if I wanna go in the gulf. The great thing about having a slow boat, well, that 3.0 115HP can run on $20 for an entire weekend. .;) You guys hurry up and get to the same destination as I'm going, because I will get there and back for about $100 less. Well, we hit Subway ($5 footlongs) on the way, and the drinks and ice, about $40 total. So for less than $100, I have a great weekend of boating ahead. . .:D

$250 for two days. but that includes hotel room for one night. not bad, we bbq on the boat and have everything else down to a minimum. otherwise, less than $100 a day, and my buddies pitch in on that so it costs me about $60 or so out of pocket to take her out for a day trip.

I figure only about $35 dollars a day for gas, (1971 16.5' IMP Trihull 155hp) maybe more if we really wakeboard all day. Plus a little extra for food and drinks, but everyone chips in.

Launch ramp use is included where I store the boat, so no travel costs (it's 5 minutes away) but the storage is $70 a month, so that has to be factored in as well.

Normally, though we don't go out all day, none of us are really morning people, usually go out between 1-3pm, and come back for dinner.

I think of it this way: the food isn't a cost b/c you'd be eating anyway. Likewise the drinks except you probably drink a little more hanging out on the boat than mowing the lawn or fixing the screen door. If you bring guests along, maybe more but would you count the cost if you had them over for a cook-out?
There are fixed costs such as your trailer/boat storage, insurance, etc. that don't add or subtract from the trip itself.
So really the expense is gas/oil and ice, and bait if you fish.
And it's not hard to make your own ice--fill empty plastic bottles with water and freeze.
Hopefully this rationalization will help make the costs easier to handle!

I'll go with the $30 to $50 range includes gas ,bait, and food/drinks.

If we are into heavy fishing/crabbing, then the eating costs go down with the yuck factor. If we are mainly crusing then food and drinks for 5.

Gas is about the same ~$15-$20.

7 blocks from our community ramp, no fees ($25 year for key) and launch vehicle fuel is negligible.

I never add up the costs of my hobbies, seems pointless to me as I'm going to do do it anyway.

My 3.0 140hp burns a lot more gas than that. But, I run it completely wide open a lot (38mph on a big lake)... Its right where it should be though, around 14 gph wide-open.

I've never really added up what it costs me. A day at the lake with the family is probably around 150 bucks... more if we go out for dinner... Money well spent in my opinion.

Re: Weekend Boating Price Tag

Truck gas --> $60.00
Boat gas --> 45.00
Drinks and ice --> 10.00
Meals at the marina --> 16.00
Snacks to and from the lake --> 6.00

Total---> $137.00

Driving time total --> 3 1//hours
Lake time --> 6 hours

Not counting driving time, that comes to $22.83/hour

-or- $0.38/minute !!!!!

Money well spent IMO ;)

The 10 miles is one way, I figured 20 miles round trip at $2.50/gallon. Should have made that clearer. At least it's on a trailer so I don't have to pay marina prices ....

Yes, it is a twin. But you'll find any of the 27'-30' cruisers to be right around the 1 MPG mark. That's why the furthest I take it is to the sandbar :). Best I've seen was a 26' Sundancer with a single 350 that got just under 2 MPG at 25 MPH. But it was a real slug to plane, and the motor was spinning at 4100 RPM to get that 25 MPH. I don't like having to load my motors that heavily.

It depends on the type of boat/engine and what you do with it. Some days we cruise to beach and hang out with friends < $. Other days we take kids and friends tubing for the day. Tubing = $$. I like to anchor and then take the kids kneeboarding and wakeboarding.

Re: Weekend Boating Price Tag

Hard telling...$200 - $300 ??

All I know is there is nothing else that I do with my family that, A: brings all of us together and B: gives us so much fun, excitement, relaxation, food(grouper, snapper, shark, sea bass, mackeral, tripletail......)

All I know is a slab of grouper sells for $18 lb. Rarely do we come back with less than 20- 30 lbs....so if you look at it that way, we may be making money!!..:p
