Um Gunner you can ask Kev about this but you are going to disney totally at the wrong time of year :D . August is the hottest month of the year and its hot enough down there right now to Fry Kevs brain :D.

Rick

Oh, I am WELL AWARE of how @#%$ing hot it's going to be! Me and the misses discussed this when the plans were first made but it didn't seem to matter. The first time we went was the month of April and the weather was just about perfect. The second time we went was in October and the weather sucked. This will be my girlfriends 5th or 6th trip there and her parents' tenth! I just want to cry!.

I think we've gone a little to far off the BOAT subject, don't you?

Shoes, wives, and now Disney! Guess you will have to get your boating fix elsewhere...Are you still trying to figure out what G.D.M.F means?

You all should be ashamed of yourselves for having light bonding conversation on Cadet Mcguires dime. He probably paid more for his membership than I did:rolleyes:

Hope he doesn't read the hull extension thread :D.

Mindless bantering about wives and disneyland is simply the intermissions between project updates...it helps keep the project alive, and allows the members involved to keep in touch. If the project moves along at a steady pace, then the thread will stay up on the front page for easy reading and of course, member anticipation of new updates to drool over.

There is life outside of iboats? What is this life you speak of?

Seriously, I have been a part of a few forums and this is by far the best bunxh of folks I have come across in one place. THe little 4 sentence chats that we all have on one anothers threads never get out of control and beside the slight jabs every now and then like with Cadet up there, no one ever insults anyone for real. I have not seen one person tell another that their boat is junk(unless of course it is on a flatbed going to the junkyard) like I have seen on other motorsports sites. Thanks iboaters.

Nobody here uses the J word cause they are all in the same boat, so to speak, when they start, and most come out the other end with a rebuilt beauty that they are proud of and can use for years.:)

Yup, there's no "clunker program" here, unless you are speaking of Iboats very own "junkers to jewels" program :D

I like the fact that we restore junk that if it were a car, no one would even touch let alone restore! Boat guys are awesome! I hope to be able to meet some folks like all of you out on the water once I get mine there! I just hope that is before Obama leaves office...

LOL Chris you havent seen my 1963 ford unibody pickup have you :D. I will be doing a full frame off restomod on it hopefully this winter it needs new floors , a new bed floor , the sides of the bed need some alot of metal replaced :D . This is a 3 year only truck 61-63 and is even more rare due to the fact it is a custom cab and has what they called a big baack window ( the rear window wraps around the bacck of the cab ) unlike most trucks of that era that had a tiny window in the middle of the back of the cab.I actually belong to an internet Club for 61-66 ford trucks and those guys are everybit as insane as we are here :D:D.

63 Unibody Ford PU? Man, I remember those...used to race one against a 59 Apache on the turn-rows/roads on the farm. My first ride was a 69 F100...still partial to the 67-73 body style on Ford PU's.

Ah yes the bumpsides :D they are comming up in popularity right now first was the Slicks 61-66 and now the Bumpsides 67-72 not alot of Effies 53-56 left so now the other years are gaining popularity even the 57-60's and they to me are UGLY with the exception of the 57 which looks pretty sweet :D.

My boat is my hotrod. I figured it was easier and more efficient to restore a boat than it was to try to fix up a car I was driving every day. That didn't work out so well for me. The boat, I can take my time on, as it isn't necessary for daily living.

Re: Well, the G.D.M.F. transom is finally out!! With pics!

Boats and females are equally finicky...so, uh, no...threads generally stray for awhile then get back on track...lead us back on topic cadet.

Well, since I don't have anywhere else to put it yet, I'm working on the motor still attached to the transom. Of course I'm waiting for parts also. But until I can remove the motor, I can't even look at the transom or separate the top and bottom half of the boat.
Can I build a decent motor rack out of lumber, or should I try to design one out of metal? I'd actually like to pull it off the boat and get it into my shop where I can tinker with it easier, and also be able to get started on re-glassing the deck.

And about that. Is there anything better than just glassing over new plywood? A better sub deck material, perhaps? I was thinking 'hardybacker'. That stuff they apply tile to. But I was told that it gets soggy if left wet. The boat's almost 50 years old and if I'm going to go through the effort of restoring it, I'd like it to last as long as possible before having to do it again.

As for that, I'm fine. Sometimes you gotta vent. Even in good humor. But yes, since I am a Handyman and like to fix things, and have many projects going on, I'm also single, so, as humorous as it is, it doesn't interest me as much as 'how to' talk.

Well, as long as I can get my 'how to' fix, and still be able to throw in a word or two, I think I can live with the side show.

Meh, if I had a tinny, I'd be on the water already...where's the fun in that?! Aren't hot rods supposed to take 10 years to complete?:D

Patrick...if your outboard is too large to handle yourself, enlist a couple of buds to help you lift it off...if it's too large for that, look on the powerhead for a threaded fitting so you can use a lifting ring. Or you can wrap a rope/strap around it and lift it off with an engine puller...I've even used a come-along and big tree branch. You can also remove it by raising the trailer tongue until it stands/balances on its skeg (have someone back there holding it up), remove hardware, raise the tongue until the transom drops out of the motor clamp and then roll the boat away. Have a stand handy so you can put the motor on it right away...you can build a good stand out of lumber or metal...several plans/designs/examples are on this forum...I built mine out of 2X4's, 2X8's and some plywood...the only expense was putting caster wheels on the bottom so I can roll it around the shop.
