Re: What and Why?

I have a 1989 four winns 200 horizon that I am looking to sell. Love the boat just a little big, I recently bought a 2002 four winns horizon 180 Love both. The new one has the 4.3 and the old has the 5.0. I like four winns because of he quality and good following. Any thoughts on improvements for the 2002?

First time I've ever heard of a case of negative two-foot-itis! ;)

Re: What and Why?

Haven't started the work on the cvx yet. Have to finish my car and do some work on my jeep before that, so it'll be at least a few months before I get started on the boat. Really looking forward to it though. Bought it off ebay for 500 bucks. Needs a new floor for sure, will have to look at the transom and stringers when I tear into it, but a good chance work needed there too. Came with a non-running, partially disassembled mercury 200hp. Will be a sweet boat when I'm all done with it. Plan is to do the hull up the way I want, then plop on the 90hp off my other boat just so I can get the hull wet before I deal with the motor. I love the looks of the cvx-20's. Sure there are other more functional or practical boats out there but few others do it for me in the looks department. Here's a pic.

You know, I never have much liked MOST of the boats from that era. I really dont care for closed bow sportboats because I think it is a waste of space. I usually turn up my nose at outboard sportboats (not sure why). BUT...there is something about THAT boat that gets me. That is one sexy craft! It has all the things that I usually turn away from, but I find myself staring at that pic of it on the water and thinking I would seriously like to own one of those! Archbuilder's Nescher is that way too...just plain sexy! You definitely HAVE to make a resto thread on that CVX...I know I am not the only one interested in how she turns out!

Re: What and Why?

Glastron did make basically this same boat in i/o as well with a chevy 350 mercruiser drive and also with a ford 460 w/ jet drive. Also, for a few years in the late 70's they made an open bow version of this boat, although in an open bow it has a bit more clunky look to it but of course more roomy. You definitely have your choice in configuration with this basic hull design if you can find the one you want for the price you want. I'm really looking forward to working on this boat and restoring it back to original. I think it will do a good job of what I want out of it, which is lake cruising, skiing and tubing. Have a different boat for fishing, which this thing would probably not be anything close to ideal for. I love the looks of the boat and I haven't found any other comparable sport/ski boat(even newer ones) that does it for me in the looks department like these boats do. There are more practical boats out there, but I will make some compromises for style. When I'm done it's going to be a good looking and fast boat if I can rebuild it's merc 200hp v6. Will definitely do a resto thread when the time comes.

Your friend has a nice boat there sharpshooter, gotta love the intimidators, tho I would have kept the windshield. The solid white paint sure makes it look a lot more modern than the original 70's/80's two tone color schemes.

I'm not sure what you mean by "intimidator", but thanks for the compliment none the less.

The CVX-20 with the chevy 350 i/o with the dual exhaust straight pipes out the back is called the CVX-20 Intimidator.

Re: What and Why?

Ok, first and only boat: 1986 Sea Ray 268 Sundancer. Wanted a boat big enough that my wife and family would feel safe (couldn't tip it over if 3 people moved at the same time). Needed a head so that we wouldn't get it all loaded up, take off, and 5 minutes later hear "daddy, I need a bathroom". Bought it at a dealer that other people had spoken well of, and bought the Sea Ray because of a reputation for being a quality boat. Bought it 15 years ago, still have it, real happy with the decisions.

Why I bought Fun, Loud, Fun, Great looking Fun. 1988 cuddy Baylinner. Why You just cant beat the ride of a Baylinner.v/8 Looks cool, v/8 cheap, V/8 I needed a project I wasn't bored of. Did I mention that v/8. 1986 Century Miranda Looks cool V/8 Has a bathroom. Sound system, Lots of room and I cant always find a spot for the camper when I want to chill on the water for a few days. Fridge for adult beverages. Ok kids drinks too. I always buy a boat I like not because it was the cheapest or the newest, I just gota like it.

:)1996 VIP Vision sbr1886 18ft. bowrider. It's my first and only boat. Bought it January this year. I grew up on my uncles bowriders, so that help with the choice. I wanted something that looked good and could pull the kids on a tube. Not to bad on fuel with the 3.0lx. It's just a starter boat not too big, just enough room for my wife two kids and myself. I'm still looking for my next one. Looking for a center console 21-23ft with at least a 150 outboard. The main thing I like about the VIP is no wood so no rot. and it has a convertable top for that sudden storm that pops up down here in south Louisiana.

Re: What and Why?

I have 2 boats now, just sold the 20' CC fishing boat on my avatar. I have never bought a new boat because I just don't think any of them are worth the pricetag and I'm a mechanicaly inclined guy who loves to work with his hands so getting a used boat and fixing it up is a pleasure to me. Living here in Panama City Fl., I wanted to go off shore to fish so my father and I bought that one and rigged her up to go out into the gulf bottom fishing and trolling. She was a great fishing boat, we had for 5 years, but a rough ride and I got a bad back, so I got with a guy I know and we sold/traded hulls. I kept my 150 evinrude and my trailer but now I have a 1977 Viking deck boat. I figured with my back my days of going offshore were done so I looked for something that I could do some light fishing from, pull tubers, run to shell Island, or just cruise the bay in comfort with allot of friends and familly. The deck boat met all those needs. I have had fun going through her, re-wiring, re-gageing, and bringing her back to life. She's ready for the season now for the most part, but at the end of the season I am tearing her down for a deck replacement and a complete work over. I'll start a thread and post pics of the progress when I start that. The other boat I have is a 12' aluminum jon boat with a 9.8hp 4 stroke tohatsu engine. I use her for getting into the shallow inlets, and coves around here. She's nice to go get lost in for a few hours here and there and is a bare bones simple boat, just an engine and a hull. Growing up on the water, than having a carrear in the Navy I just like being on the water. When I look for a boat I really think about what I want to do with it and shop for a boat to meet my needs. Some day I'd like to have a Cabin Cruiser, 25+ feet, but that won't happen till my kids have left home:)
