Re: What and Why?

Not at all. I shut it down a good distance away and coast on up. :)

To be honest, there's really nothing to load except passengers and maybe a small cooler. We don't spend the entire day in the boat.

I was talking about on / off the trailer...

That is one serious boat tho...very nice!

1st off, thanks for the good words!

Launch and retrieval is a piece of cake. I warm it up on the trailer to prime the fuel system and add some heat to the engine. Once it's floating I push the nose out and fire it in gear. Bringing it back in I take it out of gear around 100 feet from the ramp then shut off the fuel pump and let it burn the residual fuel before it runs out and shut's off. I usually have whomever backed in the trailer standing in the water to catch me as I glide up and on the trailer.

yep thats it! Learned real quick back in the eighties that if the boat was parked in the right direction that pedal would leave a nice pattern burned on the bottom of your foot!! Love Arizona Summers! Who needs a charcoal grill when its already 120 degrees!

Come here and hang out for a bit...it's already touching over the 90's, and will start being over 100 very soon...and that is at night. Day temps will get to over 140, and touch 150 from late May - late September. ick.

I have a 1989 four winns 200 horizon that I am looking to sell. Love the boat just a little big, I recently bought a 2002 four winns horizon 180 Love both. The new one has the 4.3 and the old has the 5.0. I like four winns because of he quality and good following. Any thoughts on improvements for the 2002?

Re: What and Why?

We had a 1974 Mark Twain tri-hull 15.5' long with a 115 Mercury outboard, sold last week since we just bought our new boat. Loved the boat for what it was, free from family and I learned a lot about boats and their construction over the past 4 years with it.

We recently bought a 1997 Crownline 202 BR and love it. We liekd the quality of the builder and the extras it has for an older boat. Plus the lines of the boat are awesome and looks fast in the driveway. We also like the 4 person wide back bench and the 12 person or 1690 lbs capacity. A bucnh of storage in the boat and rides real nice.

Re: What and Why?

ok i'd like to start with the why and then get to the what. about three years ago i had a heart attack. scared the heck outa me and made me realize there was more to life than work. all i ever did was work my weekday job and look for weekend side jobs. well i slowed down and me and the wife actually took our first real vacation in 10 yrs. we went to Key West. we spent half the vacation on or in the water and had so much fun. well we get back home, summer starts and we both have post vacation blues. i'm bored and thinkin of buyin another harley like i had in my youth or maybe a hotrod to tinker with. then a buddy at work invites a few of us out on his 30' walk around for a day of beers and BBQ in the bay. well i got bit hard by the boatin bug and it became so obvious what i needed in my life. my wife loved the idea so now its time to figure out what we want and that was pretty easy. i didn't want to go to small so we would get beat up in the chop and i didnt want more boat than i could handle for my first one. i also wanted a I/O because im a car guy and since i planned on doing my own repairs and maintenance, i felt confident with a V8. we wanted a boat we could be comfortable relaxing on for the day with a few friends or alone. have a little lunch and some cocktails. maybe get "romantic" during a sunset. wifey needed at least a porta potty and privacy so the obvious choice was a cuddy. i found a nice 94 Regal Ventura 23' cuddy with a merc 5.7 and a alpha drive. we really enjoyed that for a season and i found out im a very fast learner on the water. by the next year im dreaming of stepping up. the wife and i hung out on another friends 27' sundancer with the stand up head and the fridge and galley and we knew that's what we wanted next. along came a deal of a lifetime on a 95 Donzi Medallion 29' cruiser with a merc 7.4 and a bravo 3 drive. full stand up head, a galley and aft cabin and all the room we need to enjoy overnighting. for now this is gonna do us fine until i retire in 5 or so years and head south. at that point i think i want either a Carver 36 Mariner or a Silverton 38 Sport Bridge.

Re: What and Why?

I bought a 1978 glastron gt-150 clone. Got it for a good price, came with an easy loader trailer and a mid 80's mercury 90hp inline 6 in really clean shape. I bought the boat because I wanted something smaller and lightweight that was easy to tow and move around by hand, realitively fuel efficient and small and nimble to pilot on the water. Plus I love the sleek speedboat look, and doesn't hurt that the hull is only supposed to weigh 600 and something pounds dry. It seats 4 but anything more than 3 people feels a bit on the crowded side. Does just fine towing a skier or tube. Kinda fun when I'm at the beach and park it on the sand beside everyone else's 80's and up bowriders that look like big tanks in comparasin to my little boat. But the boat is a little small so I bought a fixer upper early 80's glastron cvx-20 outboard. Needs a bunch of work but is a little more roomy and still has the sleek speedboat look I love.

A friend of mine has a CVX-20 with an outdrive driven off a 350 chevy. Great ride and runs out at 75 mph.

Haven't started the work on the cvx yet. Have to finish my car and do some work on my jeep before that, so it'll be at least a few months before I get started on the boat. Really looking forward to it though. Bought it off ebay for 500 bucks. Needs a new floor for sure, will have to look at the transom and stringers when I tear into it, but a good chance work needed there too. Came with a non-running, partially disassembled mercury 200hp. Will be a sweet boat when I'm all done with it. Plan is to do the hull up the way I want, then plop on the 90hp off my other boat just so I can get the hull wet before I deal with the motor. I love the looks of the cvx-20's. Sure there are other more functional or practical boats out there but few others do it for me in the looks department. Here's a pic.
