Ahh, ya'll knew it was coming.. another question from me! lol I actually meant to post this pic/question a while back, but forgot.. Then today I was showing my grandpap where the release mechanism is for my tilt trailer, and it reminded me.. As I said, it is a tilt trailer, and the pic is showing the tilt-release mechanism (sorry, poor pic quality but best I could get right now as the light above the front of my boat burnt out). My question is, what are the two 'tabs' that stick up with the holes in them? They are attached to the part of the trailer that would actually raise when tilted. Wondering if they are supposed to be for a bow strap??

My guess is there should be a keel roller there. Good luck!

Re: What are these for?

Looks like the bow keel roller but it seems to be awfully far forward. It looks like it might be an add-on. And I could be totally wrong. For the first time, well maybe not the first time.

EDIT - I see I was a little slow on the draw there. But three votes for a keel roller, one of us must be right.

Re: What are these for?

Well, I had also thought of that, but my keel is a good 18-24" above that.. perhaps this is an optional place for one, as I'm pretty sure this is a "universal fit" trailer..

There is a roller in the front where my keel meets up.

Never seen this before, but in addition to the keel roller theory, perhaps they are there for a safety chain to run below the tonge to prevent the trailer from tilting in the event the locking mechanism fails? Just an Idea.

Kind of look like perhaps they are there for additional tie down points incase the swing away fails.

no clue here. I've used and seen many tilt trailers and haven't ever seen one like that.

Personally, I think they are attachment points for (a load equalizing hitch) tie arms. Not usable on a tilting trailer.

Re: What are these for?

Thanks for all the responses.. I actually have not tried the tilt feature yet, but was planning on trying it out either today or tomorrow... Was just down in the garage for something totally unrelated to the boat, but ended up looking at a few things on it and I noticed yet another thing. The following picture is of the area where the tongue meets the front cross-member which also has the first keel roller attached to it... The 'rail' that I highlighted with the red 'square' is the side of the trailer frame, which would tilt up when using the tilt feature.. the green square show's the end of the tongue... the item in question this time, is the bolt in the red circle... After looking at it for a few minutes, I believe this bolt will prohibit the trailer from tilting, as the tongue is stationary, however the square pieces the bolt is going through are welded to the cross-member... Am I thinking correctly here in that there should probably be a pin where this bolt is??

Re: What are these for?

take a picture of the whole thing from that bolt to the coupler. that bolt would be your pivot if it is a tilt trailer. are you sure its a tilt trailer?

While I've never seen it actually tilt, judging by the way the coupler is, and that I can see that there is no solid welds holding the tongue to the actual trailer frame, I'm pretty sure it is, but then again I have been wrong in the past.... more times than a calculator could keep track of actually lmao. Here is the best pic I could get for ya...

I gotta be honest, I'm trying to figure out how this could be the pivot point... I was envisioning as: back up to water, release the keeper pin on the coupler, and once the boat started it's decent, it would pivot on the axle, and everything but the tongue and bow roller/winch would incline... but that's just from looking over the trailer, like I said, I have yet to try that feature.

Re: What are these for?

that looks like the pivot point to me. when you tilt it, the whole A frame part tilts up. the tongue stays basically flat.

I would guess those other holes are for a backup to hold if the tilt lock fails.

Re: What are these for?

I just noticed those chains in the last pic you posted. Are those the tow chains? if not they may be used along with those tabs you asked about in a similar fashion to the first pic i posted.

Re: What are these for?

Awesome, thanks beason!! All makes sense now....except the tabs lol the chains in the pic is actually one chain.. its bolted to one side, loops under the tongue and hooks into an adjustable chain-lock. Basically like your first pic, just slightly different. But your pics greatly helped me in seeing how it pivots

Re: What are these for?

ahhh i see now. they connect the two sides of that plate and that is what catches the tongue when you tilt it.

Glad i could be of service.
