Absolutely excellent work on your inspection and your bargaining. You ended up with a great boat for an excellent price. Everyone shopping for a boat should follow your lead. Good luck to your friend with his new purchase. He owes you multiple cases of beer.

Yes Sir..The Bud is on ice as we speak!:p

Check out the tralier VERY carefully before you get to towing very far. It is a painted trailer and there's another thread here where the tongue fell off a trailer newer than that one from rust.

http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=367302

Even if the trailer is a little rough, $2600 is still a very good deal in my book. ($1900 purchase + $700 repairs)

Thanks for the heads up..I'm very familiar with that thread and chimed in a few times, since I worked for a dealership in the past.

At any rate..I did a thorough investigation of the trailer. I has been a AZ trailer its whole life and has seen nothing but Fresh Water. There is very little surface rust on the trailer, the bearings buddy's look new and packed with greace..but I put a few pumps in myself. The tires are not dry rotted and have plenty of tread left. Brake and running lights are good in the back..but the side ambers need bulbs. Tows good and straight and has a new spare.
We are going to move the boat forward on the trailer a few inches, its sitting pretty far back, and he's really close to being able to fit it in his garage. A few inches might do the trick. We'll see.

I would just do the manifolds and risers since they are way past due, the previous owner can tell you if it has ever been done but if he is unsure or has not done it, swapping them out is a good idea. You are looking at around 350 in parts and it is a pretty easy job. As far as the trailer goes, the one that Supernova references was a closed tube trailer, yours appears to be a c channel type construction, which is what you want on a painted trailer. He is right though that you should do a very thorough inspection of the trailer and probably repack the bearings and install new seals. I would also check all lights for functionality.

I will let him know..and run it by the mechanic. I'm sure I we could handle it though.

TD, I thought "lapped valves" was a good thing! What should I tell my son about his 4.3L?
Nothing....all engines have valve overlap. It's the time between the ending of the exhaust stroke and the beginning of the intake stroke when both intake and exhaust valves are open at the same time for a very short period. With a properly designed exhaust system, the outgoing exhaust pulse helps draw in the fresh intake charge. Unfortunately, if the overlap is too long,as the piston starts on it's downstroke, it can draw in through the exhaust valve, possible ingesting some water, if present. Not really too much of a worry on a stock motor, unless the exhaust manifold is rotted through and then it can be a problem on any motor.
