I was in the U.S. Coast Guard from 8 Oct 86 till 6 Jun 90.

Dislocated my shoulder 2 months after Boot Camp and ended up with a 40% disability rom the VA and I get to keep my Military ID Card.

Ears pricked up when you mentioned Spectres.
A close mate of mine, Tex (been out here for 15 odd yrs) was an amourer on one. (assume an Armourer is what we call a Gunner).
When he told me this years ago, took off to the library and found out about them. There wern't very many. Think he said he flew out of Thailand. Real strange set-up as I recall.

Anyone serve with 173rd Airborne at English or Uplift....or anyone with 2 Bits.

Steve201...yes indeed, for that era the Darts were an awsome intercepter. To bad what's left of them are used for targets.

Phillip, the Spectres would pass through Tan San Neut (sp) on there way back to Thailand....if they had to. We'd give them a quick look and send them on there way. What I understand, many of the 119's were turned over to the Vietnamese air force before we pulled out. Glad we kept the Spectres.

No, I have an aversion to anyone that thinks their service amounts to a PHD in military maters and all else should be silenced or have no opinion.... did you like the Superbowl?... ever play there?

I'm sorry you get so worked up over military service. I personally don't believe my years of service automatically gives me a PHD in anything more than how to eat a half of a case of MREs a day. I do believe that there are aspects of the service that cannot be understood unless you wore the boots. I kinda have an idea of what it is like to be a brain surgeon because I watch Discovery Health Channel, but I am realistic enough to know that unless I go to a decade of med school and hold a scapel in my hand, I don't know much about it. Just being realistic, thats all.

I can appreciate your feelings, but just try to remember just how insulting your dismissal of service is to those of us who actually took time out of our lives to protect our country.

Drafted into the Army july of 1968, man was I worried. Signed for another year to get a school. (Nuclear Weapons maintenance). Was sent to Korea, (Camp Ames) first of December 1968, left December 1969. Spent two Chrismas`s there. Then to the Presidio in Sanfrancisco for a little over a year. Got out in July of 1971 All together 3 years of County club style duty.

I almost brought one of those cute little Korean`s back with me, but I finally came to my sences.:^
