That's why you drive a diesel. 20mpg on the highway, no big hump, longevity, etc. I've owned diesels for the last 10 years and would never go back to gas!<br /><br />Real trucks don't need spark plugs!

Planning on pulling the '08 sea ray 205 with an '04 Nissan Armada...rated for 9000 lbs.

We have the "off road" edition. I believe it is enough truck, but still nervous lol

Traction control has only engaged one time going up a very wet ramp with some oil on it. I still get 14-16 MPG going 70 MPH in D3 fully loaded, with plenty of passing power left going up moderate Tennessee hills.

Let me know how that works out. I'm in the process of looking for and 06 to 08 Armada to pull our boat. We have an Xterra right now and it is not the right truck for the job.

I put a tranny cooler on myself, and a heavy duty power steering cooler. 14 trips to the lake so far, no burnt smell or discoloration in the fluid. I am accelerating the fluid change schedule nevertheless.

You likely would if I kept her in OD more, its all power in D3.

I actually spent about 30 minutes on the phone with a Honda engineer before undertaking this, and was fully prepared to buy somethign else to tow with. Its all good though.

If you do happen to see me at the tranny shop, come grab me and my boat and lets go boating. By the time we are off the lake, I will have a new tranny to wear out towing again for less than the price of the sales tax on a new truck.

You appear to have everything covered and I hope all goes well for you. I am just a little wary of towing with any form of current production minivan after my own personal experiences. Yes I had the trailering package, the additional tranny cooler, the oil cooler and all the bells and whistles that went with it. Did not use O/D as recommended and it still blew apart !!!
Made me shy away from doing it again.
I now use a GMC Jimmy.

I use a '99 F-150 Supercab with the 4R70W Transmission, 3.55 limited slip gears, and the 4.6l V8 to tow my 19' bowrider on its heavy tandem trailer. Total load with full fuel tanks in the boat is 4200lbs. I have plenty of power with this setup and with electric brakes on the trailer, stopping is no problem. The Limited Slip was just the ticket for me.

Not that it matters much, but my explorer tranny blew out ever 90K without much more than a small U-haul trailer a couple of times. I am at 80K now with this van and see no signs of failure. If I just get past 100K with the original tranny I will feel satisfied -- not that I am not gunning for 200K.

I will admit, though, the next vehicle will likely be something with a higher tow capacity. Both kids are not in school so we do not need to taxi them as much, and thus, a gas guzzler would not kill the budget as much. I am in no hurry though, especially with close to $3 gas.

I have an '06 xterra and love it. I have towed my "landscape" trailer with it, at around 2500 lbs and it was fine.

Yea, for the boat, the Armada will be fine. You would do well by that choice, it is also an excellent truck. I am more nervous about the actual towing of the boat!

With anything else I ever tow, the value of a ride on mower, or anything else really is small. Plus kind of "protected" by the sides. The boat is, well, exposed!

The f150 is a great truck, I own a 2004 supercrew. That truck will tow your load fine. I tow about 3500lbs with ease. The 5.4 has good torque and the F150's come with big brakes. The supercrew isn't as light in the rear as your regular cab pickups, so unless the ramp is real slick it shouldn't be a problem. I have yet to use 4x4 when launching my boat.


PS I'm assuming it came with the factory tow package and 3.73 gears.

FWIW - We have pulled up to about 4800lbs with an Isuzu Trooper 5spd, with no concerns at all. Next truck is a diesel though, it just wasn't in the budget last time.

5 years ago I bought a '95 Jeep Cherokee with 130,000 miles on it for $3K to pull my 18' SeaRay.

I've only put about 15K miles on it since I bought it but it has been money well spent. I generally don't even unhook the boat from it, since I use it almost exclusively for towing. I've got no interest in leaving a $40K rig at some of the remote ramps I use. After a day on the water I can jump in my old beater with a wet suit and not worry about ruining the hand tooled leather seats

The Jeep seems to be tough as nails, and 4WD is the only way to go when pulling out of a steep slippery ramp.

I use a 2002 jeep cherokee with the V8 4.7L engine. I pull a 18ft fiberglass bass boat with a 150 merc. The jeep has plenty of power to tow it. Gets about 15 mpg towing on backroads with lots of turns and hills.
