Just curious, like maybe a 5-10 yr old 300hp Stang, Vette, Camaro, foreign and why? Budget counts too, nothing exotically expensive, maybe 20K tops.

Mustang.

Cheap, easy to upgrade, etc.

I would suggest 2004 and up. The new body is much better than the old "Fox".

can't go wrong with a c-5 vette. best bang for the buck. can get into a low mileage one for about 20k and the LS motors are awesome to mod.

Nothing about "Boxter" equates to "economy and maintenance". Other than filling someone else's pockets.;):)

The Subaru guys will jump in here, any minute. I'm sorry, a souped up Suby just sounds like a six cylinder with a couple spark plugs wires unhooked.:rolleyes:

Second vote for C5 Corvette. You can get them pretty cheap now, they get over 30mpg on the highway, Very reliable, and if you chose to, you can make quite a street machine out of one. For $20k, you can probably get a Z06 or a vert.

For long term value and great immediate performance....you'll never beat the Vette.:)
Those cars over time always have their value held steady.
For short term 'top down' fun and economy and reasonable performance I would go with a Miata to be quite honest.;):)

Little older than 10 years, but I'd love to get my hands on another 88 IROC Z-28 Camaro/w 350 engine. Had one and have missed it ever since I sold it.

I am sorry, there is just something that clashes when you say, sports car and economy in the same sentence! handling fits, but maintenance? come on! When you talk real sports cars, you put twice as much maintenance into them, than you ever do driving them, economy, make sure and have a map with the least expensive stations along your planned route!

Hm, kind of reminds of of our passion...Boats!

LOL

If I was actually in the market for the most bang for the buck, I would have to say one of the RX series Mazda's or one of their Miata's, both great cars, not expensive, not hard to maintain, but the RX does not classify itself in the economy arena, but the Miata is not that bad..

Wrong. Fox disappeared in 2003.

Sorry, that is incorrect. I may not know a ton about boats, but I have a pretty good knowlege of cars. And I dont even like Mustangs. Fox body was 79-93. Do a little research. http://mustangs.about.com/od/faq/f/faq-foxbody.htm http://mustangs.about.com/od/faq/f/faq-foxbody.htm

I could just do a google search and come up with about a thousands referances. I think they may have called the 94-98 a Fox4, but for the most part, what people call the Fox body is the 79-93.

So everything about 'Vettes and 'Stangs is about economy and maintenance? C'mon, DJ, they suck up the petrol and they fill someone else's pockets, just like every other vehicle here.

How come you choose not to insult other choices here??

Depends on if your talking ab out only the US, or other parts of the world, you do know you can still buy an original old body style VW bug in other parts of the country, even though VW announced it was ceasing production, there are still two plants in other countries thare are producing them.

I disagree. I have owned several LS based cars, from Corvettes to Camaros to Firebirds. Extremely reliable, good gas mileage(upwards of 30mpg), fairly low maintanance and handle pretty decent. I have had several with over 150k on the clock with little to no major work. Just oil changes and the easy stuff.

Another one that is a bit older than the requirements I would look into, is the early 80's Ferrari Boxer, or the 308 GTB, both great cars, cost a heck of a lot to maintain and run, but you will never have more fun, and I just seen one the other day for $22K

Well, I have never owned a Chevy in the last 50 years that didn't nickle and dime me to death..they just did not work out for me, and I have had 11 corvettes and 8 camero's, to much work for this old body!

But being honest with you, I never really considered a corvette or a camero a sports car, I have also owned several mustangs, and never considered them sports cars, now one of my favorites that I owned, that almost killed me was my 1966 Plymouth Hemi Convertible, had tons of power, but could not take a corner worth a darn!
