What to Order for Impeller Replacement

Just figured out why my motor quit running- nothing to do with carbs, but a bad ignition switch, at least for the primer function-

Pulled it and put an ohm-meter on it, no continuity between the B and C points when pushing the key in, no matter what position the key was in. (Wonderful info on this site for the wiring)

Had the old (original) one that was swapped out from a recall, it ohmed out fine, put it in instead, did the 8-count, motor fired right up.

Did notice no telltale water coming out, (had muffs on), I've never replaced the impeller, figured it was time, especially since I've read it should be replaced each year, my bad, but now I know-

Anyway, what all should I order to do the job?

Re: What to Order for Impeller Replacement

By all means install a new water pump/impeller, as Im sure it is time. But the lack of water out of the tell tale while on muffs is not an indication of a faulty impeller, rather a restriction in the cooling system. The muffs will force feed the cooling system, even if you completely removed the impeller. While the lower unit is down, flush the cooling system with compressed air or the garden hose, from the water line to the thermostat housing, then back down from the housing to the water line. This will ensure no blockage. Clean out the water intake area. Another likely problem is that the tell tale line and nipple are clogged. Little critters love to nest here. Remove the line and clean it out, along with the nipple.

On this site (iBoats) I see only Sierra or Mallory equivalent kits, what is a good source for the original kit? Are the Sierra or Mallory equivalent kits not as good? Why do a lot of folks say to use only original, or did I misread?

Thanks !

The number I gave you is the BRP part number. I haven't used Sierra parts yet, I might be ordering some for a 57 model Johnson and E'rude. Mainly I have just used BRP. Depends on who you talk to on who likes what brand part. Normally Sierra is a cheaper part.

You can order the BRP complete pump from your local dealer or direct through the online store. Use this link, then click on the parts diagram and navigate to your motor. The water pump will be shown on the gearcase/lower unit diagram: http://shop.evinrude.com/

Re: What to Order for Impeller Replacement

What is the difference between water pump kit 5001594 and 5001595?

I ordered 5001595, but some sites refer to 5001594. Did I order the wrong kit?

Thanks,
