1969 chrysler valiant trihull
1982 merc 50 hp
10 3/8 x 11 prop
2 people, 10 gals (imperial) gas
49k/ph or 30.5 mph

may go to 12 or 13 pitch prop as it seems to be revving high at WOT, dont have a tach to check it ....anyone have similar boat and motor who can offer some advise on prop pitch for me ?

My buddies 1969 18 foot holiday with a 90hp merc tower of power will do 38mph on the gps.
My 1975 18 foot starchief with 130 hp Volvo will only do 30mph with the tide and a tail wind. LOL

18' 78 Starcraft SS with 82 90HP Johnson = 37mph GPS

Question: What do you suppose a 16' SS with an 80 85 Johnson would do if it were running good?

I ask because I see HA only gets 32 with a Merc 80HP (Although he did state it was not all there).

Depends on prop setup and quite a few other things

I have a
79 16' SS w/ 70HP Evinrude 13.25x17 @ 33 MPH on the lake
2 Adults, 12 gal of fuel and light fishing gear (<50#)

I'm thinking about trying a 19 prop.. Just for fishing and speedy fun - no towing yet.

I'd think you could hit 40. nrf414, I think you should be seeing a couple more MPH outta yours.

My 16' SS with an 85hp Johnny does 39.5 couldnt hit 40 no matter what I did with the 17" prop. But I was a little slow pulling a skier outta the water, so I went to a 15" SS and I lost about a mile and a half but I can yank skiers right out of the water now. So for me I dont mind a small drop on the top end for a better hole shot.

topped at 25.5mph gps

had me, wife, and the choc lab

First time out with it, didn't try to adjust anything. Will probably be finding out what it rides like solo soon, as the wife will be leaving to work at a summer camp for a month and a half.

EZ - Sounds like its time for me to do a winter restore! The fishing deck could maybe use a redesign with some hatches and what not. The current lay out under-utilizes the storage capacity below.

Actually I want to find a neglected Mariner and restore it.

I still can't believe the hull wasn't crushed. When Kev says he launched his boat he needs to say if it was on land or sea.

I'll say this, I'm not afraid of pounding the waves in Lake St. Clair now!
