The water gets cold in September and thats when we end it. Shorter days and cold nights cool the northern lakes in MN down very quickly.

With the old I/Os we'd pull the boat soon as we start getting predictions for below freezing temps, but with the Carver (inboard) we will just winterize all but the engines once it gets into the mid 30s regularly, and winterize the engines when we get a prediction for a hard freeze or close to it. Surprise excess cold nights will be handled by an explosion proof two light fixture I have with a pair of 40w bulbs- neighbor has been using the same system to keep his engine room above freezing for years, and doesn't winterize his at all!!

In the last couple years, until whenever the marina told me they HAD to pull my boat out of the water.
This year, I'm gonna store somewhere else, and hopefully I won't have to take it out until the bay starts freezing or something...

I'd ice fish out of mine if the sled would tow her.

I could probably go into October, weather-wize, but Marching Band season starts after Labor day and that takes all my weekends.

Stripers show up around March and leave around November most of the time. Sometimes December. That's my boating season. Been out in snow at times, but I usually have to pull it from the slip late October/November.

642 MX, I feel your pain. I usually get to make my last outing the first or second weekend of November. I really feel like Western Kentucky has some of the most strange weather. Sub zero temps in the winter and 100+ in the summer.

I'm told that the boating season here is from October to May. Too hot in between.

However, we are having the best time on the water right now.
The place is empty and today we were the only boat at our favourite island.
Empty, calm water for my boy to wakeboard and deserted beaches.
Temp 114F, Water 92F, Nice breeze.
Fantastic.:D

Re: When does your boating season end?

We have a couple of weeks in the average year with the upper Potomac frozen over, but not long, or thick. I love high water in my old tin boat! The grass (hygrilla )sp.) can get bad in summer. Not this year, tho? :DOdd thing here is I have to wear a lifejacket from November 15 to May 15 on the Upper Potomac only. Not below the fall line. 3 foot of water, lifejacket. Under Chain Bridge, 120 foot of water, fast current (entire river channnel is about 100' wide), not required. :facepalm:Up where I need a jacket, it's 1/3,1/2 mile wide. Happy boating!

I am in extreme northern Indiana so you never know when it will snow but normally the last trip is Thanksgiving.

I have a camper top and heater for my boat and all I use my boat for is catfishing so I run until you can't get the boat in anymore, generally my season is from the end of March to the end of Novemeber

Never ends!!!! If im not catching fish in the spring, summer or fall, than im shooting ducks in the winter. All of which put me on the water. It never ends, I love being on the water. True dedication!

Re: When does your boating season end?

I put mine away only after the water gets too hard to boat on. Last year I pretty much used the boat until the middle of January and off and on as weather permitted. If the river isn't frozen or full of ice chunks I'll be fishing. Weather does dictate how far I go and where I fish though. I won't go far in the super cold weather or when there's a chance that I won't be able to get back or out of the water due to ice. My regular boating season is over when striper season ends, after that it depends on conditions.
If the winter is too nasty I just head south.
