Who'll be Fred's running mate on 08?

I'm not even going to bother with arguing if he'll get the nomination. It is reported that he will officially enter the race July 4th. He carries some baggage though. Ill health that will hopefully continue to improve, a much younger wife sure to have the opposition crying "Cradle robber", and his rumored fondness of Cuban cigars is sure to send the old Hypocrite flag up the pole considering his little commentary about Michael Moore.

So who do you think he'll tap for the VP race? Would any of the current presidential hopefuls accept, or will pride stand in their way? My guess would be Lindsay Graham. That could be a tough ticket to beat.

Heard that there is somebody else available from the entertainment industry might be available, not quite sure that it would exactly be a match made in heaven though.:D

Common sense would indicate that the VP choice would be a current or former governor of an important swing state.
For example, I think that a Thompson-Thompson ticket could work. Especially if Tommy does well in Iowa. The Dems barely won in Wisconsin in the past 2 presidential elections and having Tommy on the ticket could change that.
Another possible VP would be former Virginia governor Jim Gilmore.

Pretty good assessment Bekosh, and I agree the Governor thing is a good idea. There has not been a Senatorial Pres in like forever dude.

Willy, I commend you on delivering this topic from a neutral perspective. I too think he could actually win. Name and face recognition is very important of course and I think he has the kind of persona that might cause swing voters to ignore any damage that has supposedly been done to the Republican Party. I have heard him speak a few times and I am close to giving him my extremely influential endorsement  He actually reminds me of my favorite President, Jack Ryan, go Fred!!

How about Fred Thompson and Condi?

If something were to happen to Fred, she could very easily take over the position.

Picking Tommy Thompson would be a Godsend for the Hillary team, Bekosh. I guess he's OK behind the desk, but leaves a Whole lot to be desired in front of a microphone. I hear his most recent appearance drew a whopping Seven people. Eight if you include the lone reporter. The man has a negative Charisma factor. Didn't he want Transportation Secretary before being stuck in HHS with the Bushies? Give him that one. Out of sight, out of mind. ;)

The ONLY reason that guy won so many terms as Governor is because the opposition candidates were even more pathetic than he is. The only decent Wisconsin Democrats ran and won US Congressional and Senate seats. Plus our current Governor that will probably be more remembered for his stint as Attorney General. I'd like to see Doyle as AG under Hillary or Bama.

Forget Gilmore in Virginia....he's not popular here--even among the GOP.

Thompson/Giuliani would be a heck of a ticket

I like Romney. He has this religion thing that is proving to be quite a hurdle. And all the "tolerant" types seem to continue to keep this front burner. This is a very, very smart man. He has wads of charisma, is articulate, and does well under pressure. His experience is diverse just like Thompsons. It would also set him up down the road to be Prez.

They say you frequently get promoted one step higher than you should be based on talent. Tommy Thompson is living proof. He was a very good and effective governor, nothing more.

Wouldn't that be interesting. Thompson/Rice vs Clinton/Obama. One for the history books for sure!

My greatest fear of a Thompson/Rice ticket would be Iraqnam. War forever and having to reinstitute the draft due to no more volunteers. That timing could very well involve my oldest son.

I'm not sure the populace would support a Rice running mate for fear of just that scenario. That would go for any Bush administration holdover. I don't think even Fred could survive that kind of baggage.

Right on Pointer. Romney is truly an amazing person. He has a story book family, (like many sucesfull LDS families I know of), he is clearly very capable in both business and government n' can prove it with his own resume of actual amazing ackomplishments. Hard to find anyone more capable today if ya actually think a wee bit, (which Dem and some Rupublican voters don't do much of unfortunately or the modern Democrat party would be much different). He looks good on the tube: tall and well dressed. He is a smart and as articulate as anyone he is competing with, the only issue the Libs n' MSM can bang on is his religion. Note the great irony in the Pointman's post: the TOLERANT types. :D:D:D What a laugh. Libs are soooooo succesfull projecting their own shortcommings on others: Cornservatives are "mean spirited" that is why they give so much to charity vs Libs; n' Rosie n' Micheal More, Ciny Sheehan, Al Franken, Danny Glover, Harry Bellefonte n' their heros: Fidal, Hugo are all harmless lil' fuzz balls. Liberals are tollerant: that why they will not allow cornservative speakers on college campuses today without threats n' violence. Great Post Pointer!! JR

My sons are 18, 14 and 12. I worry.

Me thinks yer right: Jinx. Human history shows that we are at far more at risk if we surrender and play defence with government pork projects to secure Democrat votes then if we agressively stay on offence. If our enemies both fear and respect us it will be easier to keep them off our shores then if they know that all they have to do is blow up an inocent undefended target anywhere in the world and we surrender shortly thereafter. The Libs, Democrats n' the MSM, (the enemies within), have us in a real predicament n' if we get a President Obama or John Edwards we are gonna get hit real hard sometime in the forseeable future. I know you don't like politics so please forgive me, but you did choose to post this thread. JR

Condi would make an excellent VP, but she will NOT serve, much less run. If she were to change her mind tho, I'd vote for her, or even reverse the two.
But I think it will be Newt pres,/Thompson, VP.

You all have every right to be worried. I have said it before and I will say it again, this is a real war and it will not go away if we bury our heads in the sand and hope it goes away. They want us dead, there is no dealing with them. That's the way it is. They are dead or we are dead.

I heard that the Dems are having a meeting today to figure out if there really is a war on terror or not. After all, Edwards thinks it's just a bumper sticker slogan???????????

Out of all the choices, Fred has my vote. I dont like any other republican, many of them scare me.

I dont think old baggage is that important anymore. Previous two office holders prove that. Pot head, draft dodger, coke head, womanizer, DWI, rich boy, crooked lawyer, take your pick.
