Wow! I'm glad I held your attention for two years of successes and failures. "But" for now things are looking good. My neighbor and I are going out in the morning for my first fishing trip in the "no name" boat! Thanks, Ron

Glad it worked out for you. I am getting ready to do the same carb swap, and am curious as to where you found your fuel line set up. Any hints as to where you got it?

Jusgt wondering how your carb swap went and how she runs? Got pics? Ron

A PLB is a personal locator beacon..a device you can actuate should you have a problem offshore and need help asap. The epirb, emergency position indicating radio beacon will do the same thing, but is completely waterproof and activates automatically.
Either one of these devices would probably have saved the three football players who disappeared last year after their boat was swamped and overturned.
We bought a McMurdo plb shortly after the accident. Less than $300 and a LOT of peace of mind.
There is another device called a spot locator; cheap but requires a monthly monitoring charge...

The stripes look really nice, it really sets the boat off. Well done.

Pictures of my classic old gal! Sure looks a lot better with the stripes. Grand daughter sure enjoyed it. She out fished us this morning. (I don't know who the old fart at the helm is!)

Well the carb swap went great, and it runs fantastic now. I just bought my boat last week, and it wouldn't idle (Q-jet carb). I tried adjusting it, but couldn't get it to idle. Switched over to the Edelbrock, and it idled and ran great right out of the box! I will take a pic of the bracket I made for the throttle cable bracket. Works great, and was very simple to make.

Unfortunately, the shake down run didn't go so well. I putted around the marina for a bit, and ventured further out when all seemed ok. My u-joints gave out about two miles away. I had to get towed back. I am now pulling the outdrive and going through everything. I don't want to get stranded again.

Your GW is looking fantastic. Glad you persisted with it.

Sorry to hear about the u-joints! Glad the carb worked out well for you though. Look your u-joint boot over real well for cracks, leaks etc. When you pull the outdrive off, pay particular attention to any water that is in the boot. Good luck, Ron

P.S. Have you started a posting on what your doing yet? We would like to follow along and see some pics.

OK, who can help with this one? I have been getting rain water in the fuel bays. The floor covers are both silicone sealed and the scuttle covers have good o-rings. As you know I re-fiber-glassed the fuel bays in November and I just don't sell how water can get in there. The drain plugs are installed tight and rear bilge water can't run backwards into them. The only thing I can even remotely think is the front bilge has a 3/4" PVC pipe running thru the fuel bays back to the rear bilge area. What if that pipe had cracked from the fuel tanks sitting on top of it before I modified the tank bunks? Anyone had this happen to them before?

Wow, great job! I lived in Treasure Island a few years back and used to go out John's Pass with the 21' Larson I had back then. Miss those days. I'm on the other coast now (Melbourne).

As far as your water problem goes, try a hose in your yard. Cover up your hatches with a tarp and hose down your deck and see if you get any water. If not, then take the tarp off each hatch and see if you can find the area that's leaking.

I could give that a try "petermarcus" first chance I get. I was also thinking of taking a cork and plugging the front bilge line and flooding the front bilge to see if any water gets into the fuel bays.

Anyone know where I can get an "anchor line pipe cover?" I don't want to replace the whole fixture, I just want to find a cover. Thanks

Re: 1982 GW, 24' Project (UPDATED W/PICS)

Had two big rains yesterday and had a lot less water this time. I had covered up the engine compartment along with the side seats at the stern. The anchor rope pipe was covered, the helm, the cuddy cabin along with it's windows.
My Wet-Vac pulled five gallons of water out of the front and rear bilges. I then uncorked the fuel bays and almost nothing came out. (That's a good thing.) I've never removed the rub rail to inspect the joint, where hull and top meet, and was wondering how much could be seeping in from that area.

I went down in to the cuddy and saw water laying on the ledge, where the floor pan meets the hull, and I think there is only one place it could have come from. I believe it came from the rub rail area. Think I'll remove the rub rail and caulk all the way around. Will also 5200 the bright work rail bases.

Re: 1982 GW, 24' Project (UPDATED W/PICS)

Great news! A month ago I listed, on Craigslist, looking to buy cushions for my GW. A lady near by, in Apollo Beach, sold me a complete set for $200. They are in pretty good shape and consist of 4 cuddy cushions, two bait well cushions and two bow cushions that sit atop the forward hatch. She has a 24foot, 240 Offshore with an outboard. Great find for me.

Just checked UPS Tracking and my new Lowrance HDS-7 is out for delivery today. Gonna be a busy day tomorrow!

Guess I "gloated" too soon about the cushions. The 240 cushions are a little bit different than my 241 model. Guess I'll have to have them altered a little so they fit correctly in the cuddy. I won't be able to use the 3 bow cushions cause they are really too different.

Re: 1982 GW, 24' Project (UPDATED W/PICS)

Some success with finding potential water leaks from the rain or washing. First I removed the rub rail and found that it has been removed before. When reinstalled they didn't caulk the old screw holes. There must have been a 150 holes that I had to caulk. I also found several places under the lip where there was no caulking and the rub rail would funnel water up and over into the hull. I also noticed the engine exhaust vents, by their design, allow lots of water to drop straight down into the engine compartment/bilge area. Hope all this makes sense. The four cup holders built into the engine cowling each have four drain holes. I may remove the cup holders and seal up the large holes in the engine cowling. Here's a couple of pics. Ron
