    Upgrade Outboard Motor

Props are more efficient.-----EXAMPLE----A 150 HP outboard powerhead is rated as 105 HP equivalent power from the jet.----About 40 / 45 HP is wasted in the jet unit.-----You would need a 45 HP outboard to get 30 useful HP from a jet.----Are you going to an efficient 4 stroke and then wasting...

    No lift eye.

I used a nut and welded 3/8" U-BOLT to it.----Or as stated use the 3 threaded holes.-------Do not use cable under the flywheel.

    Upgrade Outboard Motor

A 4 stroke Suzuki 25 HP lists at 163 lbs.----With electric start and power trim / tilt.----Yamaha is listed at even less weight.-----If money is no object, it is the best path forward.

Accidentally ran 2 stroke mercury 15hp without oil for an hour.

Was the fuel tank empty when you filled it ?-----You can get away with this mistake for a few minutes.----But after that much time and repeated stalling it may be too late.----Compression test is #1 thing to do , post your numbers.----And remove bypass covers to have a look at pistons /...

    Johnson Outboard ID

Your location?----Parts are available.----Or shop E-bay for used controls.----In my opinion there are hundreds of used controls like that to be found. ----Might have to move handle to mount like yours.----A 5 minute job.

    Johnson Outboard ID

Well----RPH----Might indicate a factory rebuilt powerhead.-----My wildest guess based on decals is a 1990 model.

Frequent gunk in 1994 Honda 9.9 carb

I used to troll with a 235 HP V-6 model and 2 stroke.----Never a fear of gumming up carburetors or damaging the motor.

    50hp vs 60hp trim/tilt units

Depends on the models !!----2 or 3 cylinder and the years.-----Motors are not all the same.

Old motors DEMAND to be retired when they are 65 years old..

Products are made affordable by modern manufacturing / assembly methods.-----Not much point in making a quality product that few can afford to buy.-----Plastics are a major issue for this planet,----Simply because it is cheap / easy to use.

Old motors DEMAND to be retired when they are 65 years old..

Products today are " assembled " by corporations from parts made by vendors.----They are NOT parts made in house by a family run factory. !-----It is in fact easier to find parts ( at least in my area ) for older / simpler motors.-----But new products are for folks with lots of $$$ and no fear...

Looking for a shift solenoid for a 69 johnson lower unit.

I would have to look inside to see what is jammed !------But do some simple testing.---Remove the sparkplugs.------Find the GREEN and BLUE wires that go to the lower unit and disconnect them.-----Put a 1-5/16" socket on the flywheel nut.-----Turn the flywheel.----Is the gearcase in forward , yes...

Looking for a shift solenoid for a 69 johnson lower unit.

And in my humble opinion the issue is NOT the reverse solenoid.----That item is not energized during starting of the motor.----It does NOTHING.

Looking for a shift solenoid for a 69 johnson lower unit.

In a nutshell , the reverse solenoid is not / should not be involved in the starting procedure !

Looking for a shift solenoid for a 69 johnson lower unit.

The motor is in FORWARD when it starts to crank.----With 12 volts on Green it goes to neutral after just 1 rotation of the flywheel.------When you select reverse there should be 12 volts on both green and blue .----Here it would be an easy fix.

    An empty carburetor stays clean.

    1978 Evinrude 70HP- Trouble starting/idling/bogging under load

Slide rubber boot back to expose the metal connecter.-----Turn key to on.----Touch metal connecter to ground.----Horn should sound.----And no need to open throttle to do a compression test on that simple motor.

The buzzer is in the control box at the helm station.

    Evinrude 55 1978 gearcase

???-----Some love to argue.-----If (a big if ) the oil seals are original they need to be replaced.----These gearcases are not robust.-----Parts are expensive if available !-----Good used gearcases are at a premium.
