    Trim oil leak into bilge

Once the trim block is down you will see that it is real easy to feed the line through the hole. Wrap tape around the open end before pushing or pulling the line through, there is a lot of dirt in that area.

    Trim oil leak into bilge

To get to the leaking line the trim block under the gimbal housing has to come down. Remove the 2 lock nuts and you may have to pry on it but it will come down. A 3/8” flare nut wrench should loosen the lines up. The most forward line is the high pressure “up” line. If there is no source for...

No compression with rocker arms torqued

Look at my post #11. Also you can get more information if you google “converting a MK5 to adjustable rocker arms”. You just need the stud and locknut kit or the “poly lock” style which are better. I do not feel that there is a valve problem.

No compression with rocker arms torqued

With the rocker arms removed just look closely at the top of the valve retainers to see if any are higher than the others, that will tell if any valves are tuliped. Do not start trying different pushrods. Get the adjustable stud kit and set them @ 3/4 from the point where there is no slack but...

    Merc 3.0 Overheating

Most times the riser is what causes water flow problems rather than the manifold body. If you have a water hose supply try connecting the hose to the manifold inlet. The water should free flow through it. A leaking head gasket builds up enough pressure where it overcomes the pressure from the...

As long as there is the proper ratio of coolant in the engine just remove the end caps on the heat exchanger and the plug on the exhaust riser. That will drain the raw water. Store it with the drive down. Put a thin film of silicone on the shaft before pressing the sleeves on, it acts as a...

    Steering shaft removal

You said that the slotted head 1/4” 20 screw is out of the drum. The only thing that might be the problem is a burr of aluminum has wedged itself in the shaft. Have someone or try to lock the steering wheel then rotate the shaft with the channel lock pliers which should shear off whatever is...

No compression with rocker arms torqued

I wonder if the previous owner installed a longer pushrod trying to compensate for the worn cam lobe. It would be worth the while to check and also compare the rocker arm in question with a known good one.

Mercruiser 470 - Cam Seals Repair Questions

From the looks of the oil pan gasket it also should be replaced. Removing the engine will be easy since you have the equipment. After the drive is removed. Disconnect the electrical harness plug, the throttle cable, water supply hose, exhaust hose and the battery cable. The 2 bolts at the...

Popping through carb at 4000 rpm

Is the popping sound with the same delay between events or does it do it randomly? Have you ever tried a separate small gas tank? Also with the engine off push the throttle all the way in forward then look at the roller in the ”V” notch on the shift linkage. It must be in the middle of the “V”.
