    Valve Adjustments

If your engine has a roller cam they should not need adjustment. If the timing cover is plastic rather than metal then it will have a roller.

When my boat is on the trailer, this happens.

It looks like the reverse lock valve has been bypassed. That is most likely the cause. Later model pumps have the reverse lock valve in their valve body. The valves tend to leak externally and this one is from the late 60s to early 70s. The valves are NLA and used ones are a crap shoot...

    In-boat camshaft replacement - 7.4 Mercruiser

Place a strong magnet on the oil pan to hold the small chips from the worn cam and lifter. The Grey RTV will also seal the lower timing cover seal area in place of the original rubber strip as well as the china walls of the engine block to seal the manifold. I also always go around the outside...

    New Motor same power issue

HEI distributors require more amperage than the original Mercruiser ignition system. When the HEI is on a GM auto it is fed with a #10 gauge wire. Try jumping from the + side of the battery to the + side of the HEI with a #10 gauge wire and take the boat out to see if that helps. If it does...

    87 OMC 5.7 No Spark

The only thing I can suggest is according to Prestolite their system is not compatible with OMC‘s esa shift system. Try reinstalling the original Prestolite points and condenser. Also try connecting a volt meter to the + side of the coil while running the boat to see if there are any voltage...

Everything done but low rpm at WOT. Distributor spring?

I hope that your fire suppression system is in good order. If that carburetor should ever “flood over” you will have a fire. The carburetor is not Coast Guard approved. And as others have stated you need the correct one as Lou pointed out.

Dribble of oil at prop, usual suspects checked, now puzzled

Look inside the lower seal cavity in the upper unit with about 10 lbs of pressure. You can close off the transfer oil hole with a tapered wood dowel .Quite often the surface of the lower gear is pitted. If so then you will have to break it down and install a “Speedy Sleeve” over the pitted...

    Shifting system

It appears the shift interrupter is not engaging. Are the wires still connected? With the engine running try pushing on the lever where the roller sits in the “V” notch.

    Can’t get on plane

In regards to the tank also be sure to remove the suction tube internal filter. It is a conical shaped fine mesh filter. There is a very good chance that it can also cause starvation problems. You really need to have the carburetor looked at also.

    Can’t get on plane

Aside from the questionable carburetor, have you ever tried using a separate fuel tank? It is possible that is the cause of your problem. Follow SD’s advice on contacting Mikes. Look closely on the front of the carburetor’s main body, there is a set of numbers that identify which application...

    Volvo Penta AQ131D getting hot

If you are not removing the trailering support the drive will not lock down in reverse. You need to get a genuine Volvo service and parts manual. The threaded contact pad should have a thin stainless washer that keeps it from unscrewing.
