    Steering shaft removal

If you use a slide hammer be careful not to shear off the snap ring groove. First try using a crow bar to get behind the gear and also driving it in and pulling prying it out. I can feel your pain, I have had my share of those binding steering shafts.

    Steering shaft removal

There is a slotted head screw on the drum that the cable wraps around. if that is out then you just have to keep rotating it back and forth while pulling/prying and it will come out. There is a plastic bushing in the housing that corrosion builds up under which causes the shaft to bind.

The previous owner of a 24’ Campbell I once owned was at a “Secret Santa” party and ended up with a pair of women’s panties. He put them on and the ladies commented, OH HE is SO SHY! Thus the boat was named. “OH SO SHY”

    Another prop slipping thread

Once the dog is locked in any gear there is no way it would slip. I am bettering on the drive coupler. Especially after the propeller has been ruled out. Full power starts pulling people really puts a lot of strain on the coupler. Upper or lower gears do not “repair themselves “ after the...

You need to clean the carburetor. Most times the gaskets are reusable if this is a down draft carburetor. The idle metering screw is always 1.5 turns from seated. Most times 1-1.5 turns on the stop screw. Anything more than this is not right.

If you have a new belt from Volvo it will have yellow marks that line up with the marks on the sprockets. Remove the spark plugs after the belt is installed and turn the engine by hand around enough revolutions where the marks will work themselves back to where you started. This certifies that...
