    Lifting the Engine Methods

Here are some pics. You can see why a TStat bracket won't work. I can attach chains and bolt them to the back of the heads no problem. If I remove the power steering pump and sneak the chain between cooling hoses, I might be able to bolt to the front of the heads. Is a single 3/8 grade 8...

    Lifting the Engine Methods

Thanks for the info. I have one of those tilt adjustable engine lift bars. I don't know how much load it can take. Part of my problem is the height of the gunwales plus the height of the trailer. I have my gantry crane extended vertically as far as it will go and the chain block ends up at...

    Lifting the Engine Methods

Exhaust risers are in the center. To remove the Tstat housing means draining the cooling system and removing the heat exchanger and hoses then removing the Tstat.

    Lifting the Engine Methods

I am not home today so tomorrow afternoon I will post a picture. The alternator is low on the port side and the power steering pump is high on the port side. Neither have a place to lift. The thermostat housing for the closed cooling system uses bolts that are not accessible from the top of...

    Lifting the Engine Methods

I have test fitted my engine twice. The first time with no exhaust manifolds and without the closed cooling system. For that I bolted chains into the bolt holes on the front and back of the heads on both sides The next time no exhaust manifolds and I had the closed cooling system on but...

    Laying the Deck Questions

Thanks. What diameter of screws are typically used? Number 8 wood screws?

    Laying the Deck Questions

I planned to coat the underside of the deck with a layer of CSM. So, sounds like I should go with a wet joint. Will have to work quickly as these are sheets that are 8 foot long. I have the center lines of the stringers drawn on the top side of the deck plywood and I can drill/countersink the...

    Laying the Deck Questions

I read through the decking sticky and it seemed to imply that the deck is just screwed down on the stringers dry. Is that what most everyone does or do you coat the stringer tops with wet resin or peanut butter so that there is a resin bond between the underside of the decking and the top of...

    Foam Filling Hole Spacing?

Looks like I will use two holes on the 12 x 42 and three holes on the 12 x 96. Thanks for the info.

    Foam Filling Hole Spacing?

Is there any kind of "rule of thumb" or maximum distance between holes for flotation foam filling stringer cavities? I have two cavities that are 12 inch wide by 42 inches long (front to back) and roughly 6 inches deep on one side and 8 inches deep on the other side (sloped bottom of the hull)...

    Question On Changing Stringer Location

To answer your question above, I did screw and glass the extra width board to the stringer. Careful if you use a cutoff wheel on the grinder. It can cut through the hull quickly and easily if you slip and hit it edge on to the hull.

    Firestone boat motor

You might try tractor or farm supply stores. My 1951 Ford 8N uses a glass bowl very similar to what you have. Also, other old farm equipment used glass bowls as well.

    Replacement Switch for Mercruiser Trim

Ok, I think I have this figured out. The single button (3 position momentary-off-momentary) has power coming to it. The up direction connects power to the up solenoid and will lift the drive unit the circuit is interrupted by the Trim Limit switch. The down direction connects power to the...

    Replacement Switch for Mercruiser Trim

I have an old three button one somewhere and I don't have a separate trailer button. I can add a separate trailer button if needed. Just need the wiring diagram.

    Replacement Switch for Mercruiser Trim

Well, as it turns out the binnacle control I have does have a switch at the top of the handle that is center off and momentary in both directions. There is a three wire ribbon cable that comes out of the bottom of the controller for the switch (there is also a 2 wire ribbon cable for the...

    Seawater Pickup

I am planning to put in a Y so that the Alpha pump feeds into the seawater pump in addition to the through hull. I could shutoff the through hull and then feed water from muffs to the heat exchanger through the seawater pump for work running on the trailer (assuming that would be sufficient...

    Engine Alignment?

OMC transoms do not have the same requirement as the Mercruiser Alpha ones. the only thing that attaches to the transom on an OMC stringer drive is the big rubber boot. My old transom was only about 1 1/2 inches thick, varied almost 1/4 inch around the big hole. I had to grind all the wood...

Exhaust Shutters - To Flap or Not?

Thanks for all the info. I just ordered the shutters above so should be able to move forward as soon as they get here.

Exhaust Shutters - To Flap or Not?

Since this is an older Y Pipe (but in good condition), is there any reason I should replace it with a newer or larger diameter (4 inch) Y Pipe?

Exhaust Shutters - To Flap or Not?

Yes, I read the link but it says it applies to 4 inch exhaust only. Mine measure 3 inches although the elbow has a larger diameter on one end. I think the larger end goes to the manifold elbow though. Found this part so I assume it is the correct one 99370A2.
